Apple spent $4.6 billion on tablet chip parts in 2011

By far, Apple sent the most amount of money in buying tablet chips during 2011, says research firm IHS iSuppli. The company is said to have dished out $4.6 billion, easily trumping Samsung's $603 million, and HTC's $199 million. A recent Gartner estimate put Apple's total semiconductor purchases at about $17 billion.
