Smartphones see rare US slump, Android and iPhone included

Morgan Keegan analyst Tavis McCourt on Monday warned that smartphone sales may have had their first absolute decline in the US. Studying AT&T results as well as those from Verizon, he believed that smartphone shipments dropped both quarter-to-quarter and the past year. The wait for the iPhone 4S on both carriers was the main factor, McCourt said, but he also saw a significant drop in Android and other platforms over the past quarter.
