While some competitors already released similar products, Hitachi unveiled its new high-end notebook-dedicated 2.5" HDs, aka Travelstar 7K500.
With a 9.5mm thickness, those drives will be compatible with all Apple MacBook and Mac mini SATA models. They sport 16 MB of cache, spin at 7200 rpm, drain 1.8 W in use, and only 0.2 W when idle. It offers up to 500 GB of storage space, and Hitachi claims this new series would be 16 % faster than the previous one. With several manufacturers offering 2.5" HD at 7200 rpm, customers might enjoy high-end plate-based HD at a good price.
