Flash Memory Market: The Price War Is Back

IM Flash Technologies is a joint venture between Intel and Micron aiming to offer NAND flash memory, the type of chips found in SSDs, iPhones and iPods. The availability of the 34 nm engraving process does offer the ability to produce more chips at a lower price per unit. But, instead of pilling up benefits of such technology by maintaing its current prices, IM decided to launch a price war against Samsung, aiming to capture market shares from the leading company on this market. To do so, IM cut dramatically its price, and instead of selling a 8 GB chips for 6 USD, it is now available for 5 USD!Such strategy seems to have already been fruitful as the latest rumors indicate that IM could be one of the providers for the memory chips found in the iPhone 3GS, effective as soon as next month!
