iTunes Synchronization: Palm Pré Owners Be Careful

With its Pré, Palm decided to play on the edge by offering a "hack" making it possible to synchronize contains between the Pré and iTunes. To obtain such result, they have coded a hack that makes the Pré recognized as an iPod by iTunes, without being granted by Apple. If Apple officially did not react, they have indirectly sent a warning as reported by John Gruber. Apple is aware that some third-parties claim that their digital media players are able to sync with Apple software. However, Apple does not provide support for, or test for compatibility with, non-Apple digital media players and, because software changes over time, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with non-Apple digital media players.
