Vine 1.1.3 update adds a share button

A new update has been released for the popular social video app Vine that adds a sharing button beneath posts in your feed, along with the standard bug fixes that come with every update. Sharing is a nice touch that the app has been sorely lacking since its launch. When you hit share, you're given a list of options: Twitter, Facebook, or Embed. When you share your own videos, the link is sent directly to the feed of your choice with no option to insert a personal message. The Vine is simply shared with the text you attached to it. Google challenges FISA court on government data requests, asks for ability to release more details

Google and other companies have already made general calls for more transparency in the wake of the PRISM revelations, and it looks like Mountain View is now escalating those requests to a court challenge. As The Washington Post reports, Google is asking the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for some additional leeway with the government requests for data that it's able to disclose, and it's citing the First Amendment to make its case. 'Chatology' Addresses Glaring Search Issues in Apple's Messages App for Mac [Mac Blog]

Apple's Messages app for OS X has received a significant amount of criticism since its introduction last year as the evolution of iChat. The app has suffered from a number of issues including loss of messages, out-of-order message display, poor synchronization among iMessage devices, and search problems. While Apple has addressed a few of these issues, such as the out-of-order message addressed in OS X 10.8.4 earlier this month, a number of them remain, perhaps most notably the searching issue. For users with significant numbers of messages, searching can easily cause the entire Messages app to lock up, requiring the user to forcibly quit the app. Even in instances where the app remains functional, navigating results is difficult and awkward, with a lack of filtering options to help narrow down results.

AT&T begins FaceTime over cellular rollout

As noted by AppleInsider, AT&T has begun its FaceTime over cellular rollout to users. Back in May, AT&T stated that, by the end of 2013, all users would be able to use FaceTime over cellular. Und auch das beim WWDC etwas vernachlässigte Apple TV bekommt ein iOS 7 Upgrade (genannt 5.4). Fast schon selbstverständlich, iTunes Radio macht seinen Weg auch auf die kleine schwarze Kiste und iTunes in The Cloud ist auch dabei. Das zweite wirklich Feature ist Conference Room, das einem Einrichtungseinstellungen auf den Bildschirm projeziert, die ungeübten mitteilt wie man via Air Play sein Gerät verbindet. Sehr viel hatte Apple dann wohl auch nicht zu zeigen. Die gute Nachricht, AirPlay und Computerzugriff sollen wesentlich zuverlässiger sein. EU will Roaming-Gebühren abschaffen

Keine Mobilfunk-Roaming-Gebühren mehr in der EU. Dieses Ziel hat sich die EU-Kommission für den Sommer 2014 gesetzt. Die Mobilfunkanbieter dürfen damit ab dem 1. Juli 2014 bei Telefonaten im EU-Ausland keine Roaminggebühren mehr berechnen — wie dieses ehrgeizige Ziel erreicht werden kann, muss aber noch von den einzelnen EU-Staaten festgelegt werden. Die 27 Kommissare der EU-Kommission werden zusammen mit ihren Mitarbeitern über die nächsten Wochen hinweg Details für eine Umsetzung festlegen. Da natürlich nicht jeder Mobilfunknetzbetreiber in jedem EU-Land vertreten ist, ist derzeit noch offen wie Telefonate verrechnet werden, die so von einem anderen Netzbetreiber aus gemacht werden. Das überfahrene iPhone

Wie einige wissen fahre ich Fahrrad. Das iPhone steckt dabei in einer passenden Halterung am Lenker, die z.B. auch einen kleinen Unfall im letzten Jahr so überstanden hat, dass das iPhone nicht einmal einen Kratzer bekommen hat, obwohl der anklemmbare Teil der Halterung samt iPhone abgefallen ist. Am Donnerstag war es anders: Die Halterung war noch da, das iPhone aber nicht. Ich war erst etwa 3 Minuten gefahren als ich ein leichtes Klappern bemerkte. 500 Meter weiter sah ich die leere Halterung und fühlte kein iPhone in meiner Hosentasche. Damn! Ich muss es nicht richtig in die Halterung gedrückt haben, so dass es bei dem Acker, der in Berlin “Fahrbahn” genannt wird, rausgefallen ist. Ich bin die Strecke 3x abgefahren und habe es nicht entdeckt. “Gut, dann liegt es wohl unter einem Auto.” Folglich bin ich zurück ins Büro gefahren und habe Find my iPhone angeworfen. Im Oktober 2012 starteten wir die Umfrage, ob Tweetbot für Mac zu teuer sei. Mittlerweile hat sich die Frage überlebt und wir den “Poll” geschlossen. Report: 'iPhone 5S' display assembly leaked, fits new logic board

Shortly after the publication of what is purported to be an "iPhone 5S" bare logic board that hadn't yet had any chips attached to it, a repair company called iHeart Repair in Florida has revealed new images of what is said to the be the display assembly of the forthcoming iPhone revision. Though the images do not reveal any huge changes, the alternation of where a pair of flex connectors is situated matches the logic board, meaning the parts would fit together correctly if mated and supporting their legitimacy. Have you ever wanted to throw your iPhone or iPad to the ground in frustration while capturing video because the built-in app couldn't zoom in on a detail? One of the features announced for iOS 7 during Monday's keynote was a video zoom control. TUAW received a short video from an unnamed developer that shows the feature in action. Onavo is an Android and iOS app that helps users keep their monthly data usage down by compressing app data in the cloud. iOS 7 Clock app icon shows the current time... to the second

As more and more developers are getting their hands on the iOS 7 beta, we're starting to hear about some rather interesting little touches. The latest? The iOS 7 Clock app icon shows the current time, complete with moving second hand. This is according to an unnamed developer who sent in the above image and who is probably breaking the developer NDA The clock is synchronized to the device's time, so that the red second hand reaches 12 just when the time indicator in the status bar changes to the next minute. EU ending mobile roaming charges in 2014

Rejoice readers who live in the European Union! Soon you'll be able to pay the same rate for calls you make while traveling the 27 countries in the EU as you do at home. According to the UK newspaper the Telegraph, the European Union has announced an end to mobile roaming charges in 2014 as part of a package of major telecom reforms. Roaming fees for voice calls, texts and internet access will effectively be completely scrapped under the proposals, which are part of a broader effort to create a single European telecoms market. Apple issues 'Commitment to Customer Privacy' statement

Earlier this month a top-secret PowerPoint presentation was released that leaked the existence of the US government's PRISM program. The program is a surveillance program that gives the US government a backdoor into user accounts at major technology companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, Google and Apple, among others. All of the companies involved have strenuously denied any knowledge of PRISM's existence and have been in damage control mode assuring users that their privacy is upheld. NES cleverly turned into an iPhone speaker dock

E3 took the gaming world by storm last week, so it's fitting that we take a walk down memory lane today with this old Nintendo Entertainment System that is now an iPhone dock. Made by Pete Morris, the same guy who did the Atari speaker dock, the speaker system tightly integrates into the remnants of what once was Nintendo's crown jewel. Steve Jobs bio appearing in paperback September 10

Walter Isaacson's bestselling biography of the late Apple founder and CEO, Steve Jobs, will be hitting bookstores again late this summer. On September 10, the book will be released as a paperback featuring a much younger portrait of Jobs on the cover. As you can see in the images at the top of this post, the two portraits are similar. Skype adds video messaging to Skype for Mac, iPhone and iPad

XCOM: Enemy Unknown arrives on iOS on June 20 for $20

The long-awaited iOS version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown is almost here. 2K Games has announced that it will be available on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch Thursday at a premium price of US$19.99. Firaxis' excellent remake of the old PC game arrived on consoles last year to critical acclaim, and now it's coming to iOS with all of the single player features of the main release. Digg Reader beta launching next week on iOS

With the impending doom of Google Reader just around the corner on July 1, RSS fans have been searching for an alternative to their beloved feed. Digg has heard their cries, and will be launching the first public beta of its new Reader replacement, called Digg Reader, next week. The beta will slowly roll out at first, but Digg promises it will be available to everyone by June 26. Digg has made it clear the service will become a freemium product, akin to services like Evernote which provide free services with extra paid options available to those willing to pay. Automattic buys third-party Wordpress app Poster to improve its own mobile apps

Automattic, the company behind Wordpress, has purchased the iOS Wordpress client Poster. Developer Tom Witkin is joining Wordpress' mobile team with the aim of bringing his app's unique features to Wordpress' own app. Sadly, progress for Wordpress means Poster is no longer available in the app store, but there's a bright spot for those who've already picked it up. Users who already own the app will be able to re-download it from their accounts and Witkin has announced that he will continue to provide support. Poster brought a number of features not found in the company's own apps to Wordpress users, including Dropbox integration for importing articles from the cloud, support for Markdown and the ability to choose your own URL slug for posts

Daily iPhone App: Solstice Arena is Zynga's shot at multiplayer online battle arenas

I first got to see Solstice Arena, Zynga's latest iOS entry, at GDC earlier this year, and then had a short meeting again last week with the publisher at E3. Oculus Rift headset receives $16 million first-round funding

Oculus VR, Inc., Oculus Rift VR headset developer, today announced that it has closed a deal for $16 million in funding. The round was co-led by Spark Capital and Matrix Partners. Santo Politi, Spark founder and general partner; and Antonio Rodriguez, entrepreneur and general partner at Matrix, have joined the company's board of directors. The funds will be used to accelerate the development of virtual reality hardware, software and services, ultimately creating commercially available virtual reality platform.
