S.A.D. Führerschein-App für iPhone und iPad mit aktuellen Fragen
Wer die theoretische Führerscheinprüfung bestehen möchte, kann dazu auf Software zurückgreifen. Die S.A.D. Führerschein-App für iPhone und iPad hat dazu kürzlich den Fragenkatalog an die aktuelle Gesetzeslage angepasst. Erst seit Anfang Mai ist S.A.D. Führerschein – die mobile Fahrschule im iTunes App Store verfügbar. Zuvor gab es das Programm nur für Windows PC. In der Zeit wurden bereits zwei Updates veröffentlicht. Eines machte die App fit fürs iPhone 5, das neuste Update allerdings hat die Fragenkataloge aktualisiert. Die App ist zunächst kostenlos herunterladbar. Fun with Chess should appeal to kids and other chess beginners
Fun with Chess is an iOS app that is a nice match for kids wanting to learn how to play one of the world's greatest games. It is not a typical chess experience, because it adds in factors of luck which limits your piece's moves with a roll of the dice.
The game keeps score, so you can play another person and decide a winner at any time. You can play the computer, another person face-to-face or remotely. There is a built-in chess tutorial, and a linked video with more information.
To make Fun with Chess more appealing to beginners, games are limited to six pieces and six applicable rules. I suppose one could complain that this is a chess variant, rather than a standard game, but I think it is less

Hulu Plus for iPad gets a major overhaul
TV junkies should be rejoicing this morning -- Hulu Plus for iPad, the go-to app for streaming current TV shows, has been updated to version 3.0, bringing along a pile of new features.
The Hulu app page in the App Store says that there have been "hundreds of internal optimizations," but the entire app has also been redesigned from the ground up to ease discovery of new shows. Some of the improvements include:
Videos can now be minimized during playback by tapping the minimize icon or using the pinch gesture. When minimized, the video continues to play while you browse through the rest of the app.

AllThingsD: All three music labels on board for Apple
In the music industry, there are three major labels: Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music. According to Peter Kafka at All Things D, Apple has now signed agreements with all three labels, opening the way to a possible Apple announcement of the iRadio streaming service during the WWDC 2013 Keynote on Monday.
"iRadio" may not be the actual name of the service, but has caught on as speculation has grown about Apple's music streaming plans. Apple still has to sign up Sony/ATV, the music publishing part of Sony, but is apparently quite close in negotiations.

Construction continues on Stanford 2 Apple Store, revealing new design
ifoAppleStore published a number of photos today showing construction of the new Stanford 2 Apple Store in northern California. The store uses a new "glass box and floating roof design" that allows passersby to get a great view of the interior of the store.
This same design is allegedly being used for two other Apple Stores, one in downtown Portland, Ore., and the other in the city center of Aix-en-Provence, France. The Stanford 2 store is progressing well for an opening later this year, and demolition has begun at the sites for the other two stores.

YoWindow update is ready for iPad, Retina
YoWindow (free, universal) is a cute and effective weather app for the iPhone and, now, the iPad. When we reviewed the app a few weeks ago, it was only available for the iPhone. The most recent release, version 1.1, is universal and adds support for Apple's Retina display.

GamePop console puts iOS games on your TV
BlueStacks' GamePop is an exciting concept that draws attention to just how much mobile gaming has changed the video game landscape in a few short years. GamePop is a console that plays mobile phone games like Jetpack Joyride on your home TV. When it was first announced, the system was limited to simply Android games, but today BlueStacks has announced that iOS-only games will also be available to play on console.
Using a new technology called "Looking Glass," the system is able to convert iOS games to play on non-iOS hardware. Subatomic Studios, makers of the Fieldrunners series, has signed up to have its games included in the system's catalog. According to

Daily iPhone App: Kingdom Rush Frontiers makes great TD better
We've mentioned Kingdom Rush Frontiers here a few times before, so odds are you might know a little something about it already. BMW: Siri Eyes Free in all 2014 models
BMW has announced that all of its 2014 models will be getting an update bringing the Siri "Eyes Free" mode to it ConnectedDrive internet service. The mode will allow users to talk to Siri via their iPhone without having to actually look at their phone.
With the latest update to BMW iDrive, both Apple Siri and Samsung S Voice can be accessed through the vehicle's voice command controls. With a paired device, pressing and holding the steering wheel voice command button will engage the device's voice access. Pressing the steering wheel voice button without holding it will continue to access the vehicle's voice command functions.

This is Puk. Ever since she moved in with us she loves to nap in our home studio. We like to think because she's love us and that's where we often sit, but it's probably also to do with the studio equipment heating up the room. As a kitten (below) she'd squeeze between the power amp and a small mixer lit by a warm light. Apple praised in China for environmental policies
Chinese environmental activist Ma Jun recently said that Apple has made major strides towards becoming more environmentally friendly and transparent with respect to the company's operations in China.
While speaking at the Fortune Global Forum in Chengdu, China, Ma explained that Apple has recently transfromed from a company that was completely closed off about its environmental practices in China to one of the more environmentally progressive tech companies in the country.

Oculon will Google Glass Konkurrent für 500 Dollar anbieten

Auf der Computex hat Oculon eine Alternative für Google Glass vorgestellt, die in den nächsten Monaten in die Produktion gehen soll. Dabei handelt es sich um ein 720p Display mit zwei ARM Cortex A9 CPUs von Rockchip mit Android 4.1. 5 Megapixel, 2,100 mAh Batterie wären die weiteren Spezifikationen. PayPal verschickt versehentlich 500 Euro-Gewinnmeldungen

Der Werbeslogan "Willste? Kriegste." passt wie die Faust aufs Auge: PayPal verschickte Gewinnmeldungen für eine Verlosung, die gar noch nicht stattgefunden hatte. Klar, wenn eine Email reinflattert, die einen Gewinn von 500 Euro verspricht, ist man sowieso mehr als skeptisch, aber dieses Gewinnspiel existiert tatsächlich. Grund für das Malheur ist laut PayPal ein technischer Fehler. Der Konzern hat sich mittlerweile bei den Betroffenen per Email entschuldigt, die Gewinnbenachrichtigungen für ungültig erklärt, und auf Facebook ein offizielles Statement veröffentlicht.

Spiegelglas und LEDs: ATX-Computergehäuse "Tou" von In Win

Unser Kollege Richard Lai hat sich auf der Computex in ein Desktop-Case verguckt: Dieser Spiegeltraum im ATX-Formfaktor kommt vom taiwanischen Hersteller In Win und heißt "Tou", was auf Mandarin "transparent" bedeutet. Das 3mm dicke, auf eine Aluminiumstruktur geschraubte Glas verbirgt die Innereien nämlich nur solange, wie es im Innern duster bleibt. Sobald die LED-Beleuchtung eingeschaltet wird, was via Touch Panel auf der Vorderseite über den zwei USB-Ports geschieht, zeigt der Rechner was in ihm steckt. Schon wieder verschoben: SimCity für Mac kommt erst im August
Die Gameschmiede EA Maxis hat ihre Lektion offensichtlich gelernt: Nachdem der Start von SimCity alles andere als glatt lief, wird die Veröffentlichung der Mac-Variante schon wieder verschoben, diesmal vom 11. Juni auf August 2013. Denn die OS X-Version ist, wie es im offiziellen Blog heißt, noch nicht "ready for prime time" , also noch nicht reif für einen breiten Einsatz. Samsung Galaxy S4: Sinkende Verkaufszahlen alarmieren Anleger
Am heutigen Freitag ist der Aktienkurs von Samsung um 6 Prozentpunkte abgesunken, was den niedrigsten Stand innerhalb der letzten vier Monate bedeutet. Zwei Gründe sprechen laut Experten für das Absinken des Aktienkurses, zunächst einmal sollen sich die Verkaufszahlen des Samsung Galaxy S4 im dritten Quartal dieses Jahres (Fiskalquartal) laut Marktanalysten als “enttäuschend” zeigen, wofür spricht, dass Samsung weniger Exemplare produzieren lassen haben soll. Anstelle der bisherigen zehn Millionen Devices pro Monat soll Samsung die Produktion des Galaxy S4 auf sieben bis acht Millionen gekürzt haben, was einem Rückgang von etwa 20 bis 30 Prozent entspricht. Tablets & Notebooks: Verkaufszahlen auf einem Niveau
Laut Angaben von Cemix (ein aus mehreren Partnern bestehendes Unternehmen der Marktforschung) lagen die Verkaufszahlen von Tablets und Notebooks in Deutschland im ersten Quartal dieses Jahres beinahe auf einem Niveau. Verglichen mit dem ersten Quartal des letzten Jahres konnten die Deutschland-Verkaufszahlen der Tablets um 145 Prozent zulegen, während die Notebook-Verkaufszahlen im gleichen Zeitraum einen Rückgang um 15 Prozent hinnehmen mussten. Bei “Statista” wird erwähnt, dass immer mehr Anwender ein zweites oder drittes Tablet erwerben und die solchen in einem Haushalt befindlich sind. iOS-7-Banner für WWDC 2013 aufgehängt
Im Moscone Center in San Francisco hängen jetzt iOS-7-Banner, die auf die Präsentation des neuen iPhone- und iPad-Betriebssystems am 11. Juni im Rahmen der WWDC 2013 hinweisen. Viele erwarten ein sogenanntes Flat-Design für iOS 7. Die neuste Iteration von Apples mobilem OS wird nun im Moscone Center in San Francisco zumindest schon durch riesiger Banner repräsentiert. Apple drosselt nicht den Datenverkehr auf iPhone und iPad
Die Meldung darüber, dass Apple angeblich den Datenverkehr von US-Mobilfunkprovidern künstlich an iPhone und iPad drosselt, erweist sich als Missverständnis des Urhebers von iTweakiOS. Der jugendliche Joseph Brown von iTweakiOS hat bereits die Rolle rückwärts angetreten, seinen Beitrag gelöscht und sich via Twitter entschuldigt. Er hatte Indizien vorgetragen, denen zufolge Apple die Downloadgeschwindigkeit bei Carriern wie AT&T, Sprint und Verizon in den USA künstlich drosseln würde. Tatsächlich aber hat Brown die Informationen falsch interpretiert. Das Missverständnis, dem Brown unterlegen war, wurde nun von Brian Klug von AnandTech aufgeklärt. BlueStacks GamePop: iOS-Apps via Virtualisierung spielbar?
Die BlueStacks-Konsole GamePop soll laut neuen Informationen auch iOS-Apps ausführen können und nicht nur Android-Apps, die bisher bereits bekannt gewesen sind. Laut BlueStacks soll zur Ausführung von iOS-Apps die Virtualisierungstechnik LookingGlass zum Einsatz kommen, dank der es möglich sein wird, iOS-Anwendungen über GamePop darzustellen. Passend dazu hat BlueStacks-CEO Rosen Sharma bekannt gegeben, dass das Unternehmen mit diversen iOS-App-Entwicklern zusammenarbeitet, um die Virtualisierung voranzutreiben. Apple aktualisiert WWDC-2013-Companion-App für iPhone und iPad
Apple hat seiner Companion-App zur WWDC 2013 ein Update spendiert. Nutzer auf iPhone, iPod touch und iPad sollen nun eine unterbrechungsfreiere Videowiedergabe erhalten. Ein Anruf geht ein, und das Video der WWDC-Companion-App unterbricht während des Streamings via AirPlay, wird aber nach dem Anruf nicht mehr fortgesetzt. Gleiches “galt” für Verbindungsabbrüche. Moscone Center: Minimalistische iOS-7- und OS-X-Banner
Im Moscone Center in San Francisco laufen die Vorbereitungen für die am Montag beginnende Apple-Entwicklerkonferenz auf Hochtouren. Gestern Freitag wurden in der Eingangshalle des Moscone West zwei neue Banner aufgehängt, welche auf äusserst minimalistische Weise auf die nächsten Versionen der Betriebssysteme iOS und OS X hinweisen. Apple verwendete in den letzten Jahren für Produktelogos und Beschriftungen die Schrift «Myriad Pro» (welche auch unser macprime-Schriftzug verwendet), die Banner zeigen nun aber den sehr dünnen «Helvetica Neue»-Schnitt «Ultra Light».
Der iOS-7-Banner zeigt auf einem primär weissen, aber mit einem mit dunkel-grauen Punkten strukturierten Hintergrund ein farbiges «7».

Samsung stock sheds $12 billion on slowing Galaxy S4 sales
Despite debuting as the fastest selling smartphone in Samsung's history, fears that Galaxy S4 sales are slowing and that the company is trading profit margin for volume has led to $12 billion being wiped of its market cap. According to Reuters, the 6 percent share plunge follows the release of cheaper, lower spec Galaxy S4 variants including the Galaxy S4 Mini, which have much tighter profit margins. Google exec takes fire in Apple cross-examination during e-book trial
The Department of Justice suffered an early blow in its antitrust case against Apple yesterday, reports say. Testifying in court was Google's director of strategic partnerships, Thomas Turvey. In previous written testimony, Turvey had claimed that representatives from book publishers told him in 2010 that they were switching to an agency model because Apple required it in its iBookstore contracts. All 2014 BMW cars to come with Siri Eyes Free support
All 2014-model BMW cars will support the Siri "Eyes Free" technology included in iOS, the luxury automaker has announced. The technology is being delivered through an update to BMW's iDrive platform. By pressing and/or holding a voice command button on the steering wheel, people will be able to trigger Siri without reaching for their iPhone. Briefly: Facebook revamps contact importing; HP MagCloud updated
9to5Mac.com reported yesterday that Facebook is trying to 'declutter' the iOS contacts app by no longer syncing friends that have no useful contact information. Users have observed missing contacts as being a bug, however the move is an intentional endeavour to improve the relevancy of imported contacts. A Facebook spokesperson stated that friends with no contact information other than a Facebook e-mail will not be synced to the Contacts address book from now on. These contacts can be added manually as desired.

Briefly: Logitech acquires TT Design Labs, MobiAria now shipping
Logitech has announced the acquisition of TT Design Labs, a Kickstarter-backed smartphone accessory maker. The company's two co-founders will be joining Logitech to help design future smartphone products, with Derek Tarnow joining full time and Zahra Tashakorina offering advice through an ongoing consulting basis. Logitech plans to further develop two of the acquired products, JustMount and TidyTilt+, and release them to customers under the Logitech brand. A Czech site claims it has obtained images of several parts for an upcoming iPhone 5S. Letem Světem Applem says these include a FaceTime camera, a Home button, and a vibration motor. Although the authenticity of the parts can't be verified, the site says they have country-specific serial numbers, which could mean that the Czech Republic will be included in the first major international wave of 5S launches, after an initial smaller wave concentrating on countries like the US, Canada, the UK, and Germany.

Console dev BlueStacks promises ability to run iOS apps via emulation
BlueStacks, the developer of the GamePop game console, says its hardware will be able to run iOS apps without using Apple code. The console reportedly uses a virtualization scheme known as "LookingGlass," allowing iOS games to run with few if any changes. BlueStacks CEO Rosen Sharma says he's not sure how Apple will react; iOS is a closed operating system, and iOS titles normally have to be distributed through the App Store.

Universal Audio has started shipping the Apollo 16, a new audio interface for musicians. The gear supports throughput up to 24-bit/192kHz, and uses a 16x16 analog I/O arrangement. Construction facade of Stanford 2 Apple store gone, architecture shown
Construction photos from the Stanford 2 Northern California Apple Store have leaked out. The store, previously only visualized by architectural rendering, uses a glass box design with all glass walls supporting a "floating" white roof. A similar approach has been taken with the Portland, Oregon store. The new store, when open, replaces a mini-store about 700 feet away that dates back to 2004.

Cote appears to soften in Apple-DOJ trial questioning
Additional testimony and questioning in the DOJ e-book price-fixing trial against Apple has turned the nature of the case -- which has already become more into a inquiry of Amazon's misdeeds than of Apple's -- so far away from where the DOJ wanted it to go that even Apple's own lawyers sat up and took notice when Judge Denice Cote asked a key question during Friday's hearing. Apple und Sony sollen Lizenzvertrag für iRadio geschlossen haben

Minimalistischer Banner für iOS 7 am Moscone Center
Apple ist in diesen Stunden dabei, den Moscone Center in San Francisco für die am Montag beginnende World Wide Developer Conference mit Werbeplakaten auszustatten. Neben vielen Bannern mit dem bekannten WWDC-2013-Logo hat Apple nun auch einen Banner für iOS 7 aufgehängt, auf dem nur eine 7 in einer bisher von Apple nicht genutzten Schriftart "Helvetica Neue Ultra Light" zu sehen ist. Banner für neue OS X-Version im Moscone Center
Vor zwei Stunden wurden Banner zu iOS 7 im Moscone Center in San Francisco aufgehängt, in dem am Montag die Entwicklermesse WWDC startet. Nun wurden auch Banner für Apples Betriebssystem OS X aufgehängt, auf denen in der selben Schriftart (Helvetica Neue Ultra Light) ein großes X vor einem grün-weißen Hintergrund zu sehen ist. Apple aktualisiert offizielle WWDC-App
Vor wenigen Tagen hatte Apple die offizielle App zur WWDC 2013 veröffentlicht.
