Final Cut Pro X, Motion recieve Retina display updates
Following a series of minor updates to iTunes, Aperture, and iPhoto today, Apple has also pushed out minor updates to two of its pro-video apps, Final Cut Pro X and Motion. Besides a few minor bug fixes, each update provides support for the new Retina Display MacBook Pro.
It's likely that Apple will continue to seed Retina-enabled updates for most of

iTunes 10.6.3 brings iOS 6 beta compatibility
Apple has posted a new version of iTunes, 10.6.3. The release has very few changes, but is critical for developers, since it folds in compatibility for the newly-released iOS 6 beta. Bugfixes cope with crashes when playing videos, syncing photos or changing artwork size in the Grid view, as well as freezes when sync an iPod nano or shuffle, and bad descriptions in VoiceOver and WindowsEyes.

Apple releases updates for iPhoto and Aperture, unifies libraries
Apple has pushed out updates to its iPhoto and Aperture apps. The updates add a number of fixes and also bring support for the new Retina display MacBook Pro. However, one significant new feature to each app is unified photo libraries. From the Mac App Store Aperture description:

Noch ein weiteres Update hält Apple am heutigen Abend parat. Nur kleine Updates beim Apple Mac Pro
Im Rahmen des WWDC hat Apple auch die Mac Pro aktualisiert. Entgegen den Gerüchten vorab ist dort aber recht wenig passiert, stattdessen kommt der Ende 2009 eingeführte Xeon W3565 weiter zum Einsatz, ebenso der wenig später erschienene Xeon E5645 – von neuen „Sandy Bridge-EP“ also keine Spur.

Apple job posting tips Aperture iOS possibly on the way
Job listings uncovered by AppleInsider seems to indicate that Apple is looking to bring a version of its pro-photography program Aperture to iOS. The listings show that Apple's Aperture team is looking to bring on user-interface engineers, managers, and software coders with experience working in the iOS environment. Experience in programming for iOS is listed as a key requirement in the listing, which seems to increase the likelihood that the listing is aimed at bringing in talent to eventually produce an iOS app.

Apple has posted the official video stream for the WWDC 2012 keynote held earlier today. In all the event lasted roughly 113 minutes, and showcased new MacBooks, OS X Mountain Lion, and the announcement of iOS 6. Viewing the stream on the web requires QuickTime; shortly, however, the video should also become available as a podcast on iTunes.

iTunes 10.6.3 out now
Apple has just released iTunes 10.6.3, which helps set up developers to upgrade to the new iOS 6 beta, which arrives today after this morning's keynote. Even if you're not a developer, you can get the update to the app on the official iTunes page, and though we don't see it in Software Update just yet, it'll presumably be there soon as well.
Other than the beta download, there's not much else to this one. Developers can grab the beta today (though be warned that it may not be stable quite yet, and you may have to restore your phone when the official version is released). Apple introduces Smart Case for iPad
Apple's Smart Covers are great for covering the iPad's touchscreen, but they've left the backside unprotected. In recognition that some people want to protect the aluminum case from scratches and other damage, Apple has introduced the iPad Smart Case.
It's made from polyurethane and available in six colors, most of them the same as the standalone Smart Cover. The foldover portion of the Smart Case will wake and sleep the iPad just like the Smart Cover.

Mac Pro gets an unannounced speed bump
If you were waiting for an announcement of a new Thunderbolt/USB 3.0-equipped Mac Pro, you are out of luck. However, the Mac Pro did see a bit of a speed bump today.
The online Apple Store is showing new configurations of the Mac Pro. Previously, a 12-core 2.93 GHz model was the speediest Mac Pro available; now a 12-core 3.06 GHz CPU model tops the charts, featuring Xeon X5675 processors. Apple shows this as being "up to 1.3X greater than the previous-generation Mac Pro."
TurboBoost is also available on the Mac Pro if you're not using all of the cores. The feature will bump up the top speed of active cores to 3.33 GHz on a 12-core system or up to 3.6 GHz on a 6-core system.

Apple brings new Chinese-specific features to iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion
Apple has said repeatedly that China is its next big market and several new iOS and OS X features suggest Apple plans to increasingly market its products to consumers in the Asian country.
For the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, Apple announced during its WWDC keynote that iOS 6 will support additional Chinese characters, add new Chinese dictionaries and ship with eight new fonts. It'll also add support for Baidu and other Chinese websites including Youku and Tudou. An updated version of Siri will support Mandarin and Cantonese.

The company has quietly updated the line on its website, bringing a rather modest spec bump to the familiar tower. Though it apparently wasn't worthy of a mention during the WWDC keynote, Apple has in fact launched an all-new version of its AirPort Express wireless base station. Apple unveils new Maps app in iOS 6
In what's surely a shot across Google's bow, Apple has unveiled its own Maps app for iOS 6, dropping Google Maps. With over 100 million business listings, integrated Yelp support, and an in-progress traffic service, the new Maps app completely sidesteps Google's services, "redesigned from the ground up" according to Apple.
The new traffic service will include anonymous, real-time, crowd-sourced incident reports -- no more getting stuck on the freeway behind an hour's worth of rubberneckers. It also features turn-by-turn navigation, a first for the Maps app. Traffic reporting can offer real-time rerouting based on current conditions, potentially a huge time-saver.

Passbook creates unified location for pass-storing
Apple is creating an app in iOS 6 that's the digital equivalent of stringing frequent-shopper cards on a keychain. Passbook allows you to store these sorts of cards, airline passes, movie tickets and more. The passes will appear on the lock screen. Swipe the notification, and a QR code will appear. Other businesses glimpsed include Starbucks, Amtrak, the Apple Store -- even a Giants baseball ticket!
As far as airlines go, it looks like just United Airlines is onboard for now. Multiple boarding passes are grouped together. It's integrated with the notifications center -- being near a favorite Starbucks will alert you. You also can get gate changes and more information with the airline tickets.

WWDC Keynote 2012: iOS 6, Siri fürs iPad und Dinge, die Android schon länger kennt (UPDATE: Pressemeldung)
Nach Mountain Lion wurde iOS 6 vorgestellt. Mindestens 200 neue Funktionen wird das neue Betriebssystem haben. Siri wurde einem Update unterzogen, inklusive der Möglichkeit nun auch Apps via Sprachinput aktivieren zu können. Und! Siri kommt nun auch aufs iPad. Wir haben uns schon immer gewünscht mit der Flunder über Hermeneutik tratschen zu können. Andere Funktionen sind unter anderem die Nicht-stören-Funktion oder eingehende Anrufe mit einer vorgefertigten Nachricht abzuweisen, kennt man aber schon von Android und ist alles andere als neu.

Apple announces Guided Access for iOS devices, offers expanded accessibility controls
We didn't get a ton of details on this one during the keynote, but Apple has announced a new Guided Access feature for iOS that promises to let folks limit what sort of input their devices are able to respond to. Some examples given by Apple are a parent of an autistic child who could disable on-screen controls so they don't accidentally exit an app, a teacher who could prevent students from exiting a test app, or museums who could keep folks locked in to their own display apps. FaceTime updated with cellular support, unified Apple ID
Finally! Apple announced that FaceTime will work over a cellular network in iOS 6. This long sought-after feature has been advertised as an advantage by competitors who's devices have cellular video chat in place.
Additionally, Apple will unify customers' phone number and Apple ID. That way, if a call comes in on your iPhone, you can answer it on your iPad.

Apple details Facebook integration in iOS and OS X
As hinted by Tim Cook, Facebook is coming in a big way to iOS. Just like Twitter, Facebook will be integrated into iOS 6 with a single sign-in that's shared across apps. You can use this feature to share images from iPhoto, websites from Safari and locations from Maps. It'll be a public API so other apps can tie into this feature as well.
Not surprisingly, the Facebook integration will let you sync your Facebook contacts with your address book on your phone and your Facebook events with your calendar. Phone app in iOS 6 gets additional answering options, adds Do Not Disturb
As of today, anyone with an iPhone who gets a call on it (weird, I know, but it happens) has two options: Answer, or Decline. Part of the WWDC iOS announcements today for iOS 6 include a revamped Phone app that offers more ways to "answer" a call. Plus, if you are completely indisposed, you can set a Do Not Disturb sign on your iPhone.
With iOS 6 you not only get the two previous options, but also "Reply With Message" and "Remind Me Later". If you tap "Reply With Message" you get a number of options to add to a "Can't talk right now" message you can send to the other person. You can even reply with a quick message you compose yourself if you have time.

Siri gets a number of changes, will be coming to third-generation iPad
In the upcoming release of iOS 6, Siri will be undergoing a number of changes. One of the most significant is the integration of third party apps such as Yelp and OpenTable.
Features include being able to find a place to eat and getting average prices, Yelp reviews and more. Rotten Tomatoes integration is seen when you ask about movies, and you can launch trailers from Siri. You can also launch apps with Siri.
Another feature is Eyes Free, where Apple is working with automakers to include a Siri button in the steering wheel so it can be launched without having to mess with the phone.

Apple unveils vew version of Safari that syncs tabs, supports gestures
During its presentation on OS X Mountain Lion, Apple unveiled a new version of Safari that'll improve your desktop browsing experience. The new Safari will have the "fastest javascript engine of any browser on the planet" and "lightning fast page loading," said Craig Federighi during the WWDC keynote. A new scrolling architecture based on Core Animation will deliver smooth-as-silk scrolling.
Besides improving the rendering engine, Safari will have a new tab syncing feature that'll show you all the pages you have open across all devices. Scott Forstall has just revealed some pretty significant stats for iOS 5 and Apple's mobile operating system platform in general. Check 'em out:
365 million iOS devices have been sold (through March 2012) since the first iPhone went on sale in June 2007.
80% of iOS devices are running iOS 5. That's compared to only 7% of Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Android's OS -- which was released at the same time as iOS 5.
There are 140 million iMessage users. One billion iMessages are sent per day and over 150 billion iMessages have been sent so far.
Since adding Twitter support to iOS 5, Twitter usage on iOS devices have grown three-fold. 10 billion tweets have been

Apple has never shied away from taking a few shots at Android during its WWDC keynotes, and why would 2012 be any different. Apple reveals new MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs
Presenting at its WWDC 2012 keynote, Apple today announced new MacBook Pro and Air models. The flagship system is a new, ultra-thin 15-inch Pro, just 0.71 inches thick, and 4.46 pounds. It also makes an upgrade to a Retina display, with a resolution of 2880x1800 and a 220ppi pixel density. The screen is also said to have a higher contrast ratio, better viewing angles, and reduced glare. App Store downloads reach 30B, devs paid more than $5B
Apple kicked off its WWDC keynote by highlighting its latest App Store metrics, boasting that overall downloads have surpassed 30 billion. Notifications, AirPlay, Game Center all coming to the Mac with Mountain Lion
We knew these were coming to the next version of OS X already, but Apple has just demoed all three of them at the WWDC Keynote in San Francisco today. As you might expect, all three of these famous iOS features look pretty much the same on a Mac (especially now that the sweet MacBook Pro with Retina Display has been announced).
Notifications allows you to hear about things like Twitter direct messages and other pending notes from a dragdown menu on the top of your screen, AirPlay allows you to send video wirelessly off to other devices, and Game Center not only tracks achievements, but allows for multiplayer gameplay across other computers and the Internet.

Apple shows off iCloud integration in Mountain Lion
Tim Cook is currently demoing iCloud's integration in Mountain Lion onstage at the WWDC Keynote in San Francisco. iCloud, Apple's cloud sync service, has been a big hit on iOS already, with 125 million iCloud users registered and using the service currently.
On Mountain Lion, iCloud will come in the form of Document syncing, which Cook showed took only a few seconds to sync a document from his iPad to a MacBook Pro. Reminders, Messages, and Notes are all being synced across iCloud as well, and presumably will work just as smoothly as they work currently. Safari browsing history and bookmarks will also get synced, and even tab views can be synced between devices, so you can view tabs on your MacBook Pro, and then take those exact browser tabs over to

Messages in Mountain Lion brings conversations to your Mac
Messages has been in beta for a bit, but today Apple showed off what's coming in Mountain Lion, and I think it finally fixes a huge problem with our devices: conversation fragmentation. You may start a conversation on your iPhone, but then continue on your Mac later. In applications like Skype, or web services like Campfire, these persist across devices.
With Mountain Lion, your conversations in Messages will transfer across Macs and iOS devices. It's about time! I hope Apple provides some mechanism for allowing/disallowing conversations, however. As a parent who often allows his kids to play with my first generation iPad, it would be a bit silly to have them join in my work conversations.

Apple reveals new MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs
(Updating) Presenting at its WWDC 2012 keynote, Apple today announced new MacBook Pro and Air models. The flagship system is a new, ultra-thin 15-inch Pro, just 0.71 inches thick, and 4.46 pounds. It also makes an upgrade to a Retina display, with a resolution of 2880x1800 and a 220ppi pixel density. The screen is also said to have a higher contrast ratio, better viewing angles, and reduced glare. To match, all the stock apps in OS X Lion have been updated to support the screen, as have Aperture and Final Cut Pro.

Apple announces next-gen MacBook Pro
Apple has just announced a brand new MacBook Pro model at the WWDC Keynote in San Francisco. The new notebook is still extremely small, though it's not quite as tiny as a MacBook Air -- about two times the height of a USB port, according to our friends at Engadget. The device weighs 4.46 pounds and obviously it's very powerful, but here's the kicker: It's a laptop with a Retina Display.
Yes, Apple's big innovation on touchscreens has finally made its way back to a traditional computer. The screen runs at 2880x1800, which means there will be over 5 million pixels in the display. New versions of Final Cut Pro and Aperture revealed
During the presentation of the next-generation MacBook Pro, updates to Final Cut Pro and Aperture were revealed. Thus far, the UI has been updated in Apeture and you're able to look at four times the resolution. In Final Cut Pro, 1080p footage was seen in the upper-right corner of the app with room for a full timeline and library.

New MacBook Air announced with Ivy Bridge CPUs, USB 3.0
Phil Schiller took the stage at WWDC 2012 this morning to announce an update to the MacBook Air (product page not updated as of this writing). line. The new Airs feature New Ivy Bridge CPUs, up to 2GHz dual core. Inside you'll find up to 512GB of flash storage, up to 8GB of RAM and USB 3.0, which Apple says is "up to 10 times faster than USB 2."
Additionally, the FaceTime camera now does 720p. Prices start at US$999 (11-inch model) and $1099 (13 inch). They'll start shipping today.

New MacBook Pros announced with Ivy Bridge processors, up to 2.7GHz quad-core i7s.
Apple has announced a new line of MacBook Pros at WWDC today. The machines will have third-generation Ivy Bridge processors, up to 2.7GHz quad-core i7's. You can turbo-boost them to 3.7GHz.
There will be up to 8 GB of 1600MHz memory and 60% faster integrated graphics from a Kepler GeForce GT650M card. All USB 3.0 and will have a 7-hour battery life.
Prices start at US$1199 for the 13-inch model and $1799 for the 15-inch model. No mention was made of a 17-inch model MacBook Pro.
The new MacBook Pros will be shipping today.

Apple announces refreshed MacBook Air: Ivy Bridge processor, USB 3.0, shipping today
Apple's skinnier, lighter MacBook option checked in for another (irregular) hardware update at this year's WWDC. Just under a year since the last time the range was renovated, the move to Ivy Bridge processors wasn't the only thing that changed. First up, those processors will reach up to 2GHz Core i7, with Turbo Boost tipping these up to 3.2GHz. Wer gestern mit der iOS-App die EM-Spiele ansehen wollte, musste im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes in die Röhre schauen: Während das TV-Programm über die Browser-Mediathek des ZDF lief, gab es in der App keinen Link auf das Live-TV. Technische Probleme waren die Ursache, und sollen die Ausnahme bleiben.

ITC denies HTC chance to wield Google patents against Apple
HTC hasn't been having the best time bringing ITC disputes against Apple, and the situation just got a bit more glum. Administrative Law Judge Thomas Pender has ruled that HTC can't use the patents it borrowed from Google to challenge Apple's products, as the Taiwan phone maker hasn't properly acquired all the necessary rights. Google brokers a deal with French publishers to immortalize out-of-print books
Google has reached an agreement with France's publishers to scan thousands of out-of-print texts. If you fell in love with Teknision's contextual Android skin, we've got some news that might break your heart. The Chameleon homescreen's Kickstarter project has been unceremoniously canceled, as its Amazon payments account-holder has left the company. Der Clip lief im Rahmen des Pocono 400 Nascar-Rennens und featuret den Rennfahrer Brad Keselowski als Hauptdarsteller, der uns zwar so bekannt erscheint wie der Weltmeister im Schachboxen, aber wie dem auch sei. Der Spot ist mit seinen 16 Sekunden auch alles andere als spektakulär, bombastisch oder tränendrüsig, sondern bringt die Kernkompetenz des Microblogging-Netzwerks schnell und einfach auf den Punkt. Intel: multi-core CPUís on Android still not optimized
Intelís Mike Bell has leveled criticism at Android SoC vendors for not doing enough to optimize their multi-core ARM-based processors for Android devices, reports The Inquirer. According to Bell, Androidís thread scheduler is not yet capable of taking maximum advantage of the multicore processors on the market. Intelís internal benchmarking of ARM-based SoCs shows that single-core processors can run the Android much more effectively, whereas having additional cores can actually be detrimental to performance.

Keio University democratizes facial recognition technology for Avatars everywhere (video)

Maulwurf bei ASUS: Google Nexus Tablet kommt Ende Juni

Es gibt in den Reihen von ASUS wohl einen Maulwurf, zumindest einen Mitarbeiter, der anonym diversen Medien steckt, dass das kommende sieben Zoll große Google Nexus Tablet nicht nur von ASUS gebaut wird, sondern auch mit Quad-Core-Antrieb kommen soll. Laut der Quelle soll es Ende Juni bereits so weit sein, was in der Tat gar nicht so lange hin ist. Rumor: MacBook Pro to keep form factor, no Retina display
New photos have surfaced claiming to show Apple's next-generation MacBook Pro motherboards. Chinese forum WeiPhone show some images of a motherboard that looks similar to previous versions, with mentions made towards the specifications of the MacBook Pro revisions. There however does not appear to be any sign of a previously rumored Retina-based display joining the updated line.

Rubin staying at Google, Android at 900,000 activations/day
Andy Rubin has scotched rumors suggesting that he may have been leaving Google. Tech commentator Robert Scoble had suggested Rubin could have been headed to tech start-up CloudCar headed by a former Apple Distinguised Engineer Konstantin Othmer. The rumor gained enough momentum over the weekend that Rubin responded to them by tweeting that he has ëNo plans to leave Google.
