ASUS and MSI launch Thunderbolt motherboards, tie for first place

You wait for one Thunderbolt-compatible motherboard and then two decide to arrive on the same day. Going alphabetically, ASUS' P8Z77-V Premium is its first Intel-certified board to pack Thunderbolt and it's followed immediately by the P8Z77-V Pro / Thunderbolt. The connection will hook up to multiple storage drives or any Thunderbolt-friendly display -- it can be daisy-chained to up to six different devices. ITC rules against Kodak, in favor of RIM and Apple

This is strike two against Kodak at the US International Trade Commission. CNET is reporting today that administrative Judge Thomas Pender reaffirmed a decision from last year which stated that neither Apple or RIM were infringing Kodak patents. Apple to seek new life for iPhone 3GS in emerging markets

ITC says again that Apple and RIM don't violate Kodak patent

Kodak hasn't caught a break lately, and that trend isn't easing up any time soon with a second rejection arriving in its main International Trade Commission (ITC) patent dispute with Apple and RIM. Despite having had its case remanded after a loss last year, Kodak is once more being told that BlackBerrys and iPhones don't violate a patent on previewing photos. Apple's Tim Cook ranks as highest-paid CEO of 2011

Apple CEO Tim Cook was the highest-paid CEO of 2011, according to a study released by the Hay Group and the Wall Street Journal. Cook's package for the year was valued at $378 million, although most of it was locked up in the form of stock grants issued after he took control from Steve Jobs in August. The first half of the shares will vest in 2016, the remainder following in 2021, contingent on Cook staying with Apple.

Apple sends letter to neighbors about new "spaceship" campus

Apple wants its new spaceship-style campus to be as free from controversy as possible. To quell any discontent from its neighbors, the company is reaching out to Cupertino residents and asking them for feedback about the project. Mountain Lion to include automatic app downloads

Automatic app downloads are being integrated into OS X Mountain Lion, checks show. The feature is present in the latest Developer Preview of the OS; under the new option, titles bought at the Mac App Store should, in theory, appear on any other Mac signed in with the same Apple ID. In practice though, the store is marking titles as "installed" on secondary Macs without actually copying any files. The function will likely be turned on in future Developer Previews, or at least the final version of Mountain Lion, due sometime this summer.

Asian manufacturer Foxconn is preparing to spend $210 million on a new Huai'an production line for Apple, according to China Daily. The plant has been announced by local officials, and is expected to consume 40,000 square meters (over 430,556 square feet), and employ 35,800 people. Apple to start enforcing sandboxing on Mac apps June 1

Apple sent an email reminder to developers working on apps for the Mac App Store letting them know that new programs will have to be compatible with the platform's forthcoming "sandboxing" constraints in order to be offered in the Mac App Store. Developers are expected to implement sandboxing within their apps by June 1, though existing programs can be updated after that date. Apple has previously extended the deadline for app sandboxing, first November 2011 to March 2012, and later to June 2012.
