Avid updates Studio for iPad with VOs, new transitions

Avid has released an important update to the iPad version of Studio. The app handles basic- to mid-level video editing tasks. Version 1.1 lets users record voiceovers directly to the timeline, and adds 14 new transitions, plus a variety of interface enhancements. Yamaha adds new RX-V-series receivers with AirPlay, more

RIM CEO: BlackBerry 7 devices will not receive BB10 upgrade

Mozilla plans war on fragmentation, reveals unified UI design for Windows 8 and mobile devices

Mozilla has shown off ideas for future versions of Firefox as it becomes less of a traditional browser and more of a "soft, friendly, human" ecosystem. We here at Engadget are always fans of brain wave experiments, and so we were delighted when two Cornell University electrical engineering students, Chuck Moyes and Mengxiang Jiang, wrapped up a final project using brain waves in the best way possible: playing Pong. RunCore's Mini DOM packs single-chip, SATA-based SSD into tiny places

Fitting a truly quick solid-state drive into a small space isn't easy, and for that reason RunCore's new Mini DOM (Disk On Module) stands out from the crowd. It's billed as the first single-chip SSD to use a SATA interface (SATA II, to be exact), giving it that much more bandwidth than the pokey IDE and PATA DOMs of old while remaining under half the size of a regular mSATA drive. RunCore's own tests show it hitting about 113MB/s sequential reads and 47MB/s writes. Fingerlab has launched an update for Rockmate, its music creation app designed specifically for the iPad, that includes new instruments, Retina graphics, and microphone support. Walt Disney World reportedly testing iPads for Fast Pass system

According to an unofficial Disney twitter account (@DisneyProjects), Walt Disney World is testing a new iPad-based FastPass ticketing system. The system would use RFID technology and an iPad to let visitors schedule ride passes before their visit. Microsoft reportedly launching subsidized Xbox 360 bundle next week for $99 with a two-year subscription

Microsoft has long been pushing to get the Xbox 360 into as many living rooms as possible, and it looks like it could now be about to attempt a new tactic to further expand its reach. According to The Verge's sources, the company will launch a new bundle next week that will include both a 4GB Xbox 360 console and a Kinect sensor for just $99 -- the only catch being that you'll also have to sign a two-year contract at a rate of $15 a month. Dev survey: 59% of app devs not breaking even

A marketing firm named App Promo has released some data on a developer survey it took, asking over 100 developers about how they were doing with selling and marketing their apps. Of those developers asked, over 59% told App Promo that they weren't even breaking even on the App Store. And a full 80 developers said they weren't making enough from App Store earnings to "support a standalone business." Filed under: Audio Software Schlaumeier von den Cornell University haben ein Keyboard ausgetüftelt, das nach Nutzerlaune automatisch Lieder komponiert: bei der von Charong Chen und Siyu Zhan entwickelten Musikmaschine wählt man zunächst eine Stimmung (fröhlich oder gedämpft, was Dur und Moll entsprechen sollte) und klimpert anschließend ein wenig auf den Tasten, um den Prozess zu starten, der im Handumdrehen frisch komponierte Liedchen auf Basis der geklimperten Töne ausspukt. Ein weiterer Modus erlaubt es, die Autokomposition auf den eigenen Geschmack zu trimmen, indem man Lieblingslieder einspielt, deren Stimmung und Melodieführung dann in endlosen Variationen dargeboten werden.
