Doch kein weißes iPhone mehr?
Nachdem der Apple Store heute morgen gute zwei Stunden nicht zu erreichen war, sprangen auf den ersten Blick keine großen Änderungen in’s Auge - Keine großartige neue iMacs, kein neues iPhone, keine Preisänderungen. Doch etwas wurde verändert. Auf der ganzen Seite sucht man nun vergeblich nach Bildern oder Hinweisen auf das weiße iPhone 4, dessen Erscheinen vor einigen Wochen noch stolz von Phil Schiller für dieses Frühjahr bestätigt wurde.

Sprint launches Novatel MiFi 3G / 4G mobile hotspot

Ballmer wants Microsoft store count to match Apple's
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer wants to outdo Apple in the sheer number of retail stores but has been held back by poor results at what few stores he has, according to sources. Both the executive and COO Kevin Turner would want to pass Apple's 300-plus store count but have had to keep their plans on hold. The stores are designed to mimic Apple's design, which is meant to serve as a halo for the brand, but don't have the according traffic, SAI learned.

Rumor: Apple buys 12 petabytes of video storage for iTunes
According to a site named StorageNewsletter.com, Apple has picked up a whopping 12 petabytes of data storage from a company named Isilon Systems. Supposedly, the new hardware (which makes Apple one of Isilon's biggest customers) will be used for storing video for iTunes, though because this information is unofficial, we have no idea if it has to do with Apple's new data center or some other operation Apple has planned around iTunes and its services.

The Daily interest on decline, Twitter trends hint
News Corp.'s iPad-only news magazine The Daily is losing traction, says the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University. It's currently impossible to gauge the exact performance of the publication, as neither Apple nor News Corp. have released detailed figures. YouTube to try 'premium' channels to lure viewers
YouTube is hoping to turn to original content as a way of making content for Google TV and otherwise drawing in viewers, sources said Wednesday. The Google video site is planning to launch about 20 "premium" channels that would have roughly five to ten hours of unique content every week. The WSJ heard YouTube would be willing to spend as much as $100 million to get the content.

News: Survey: 17 percent of U.S. teens own iPhones
Nearly two out of every ten U.S. teens now owns an iPhone, according to the results of the latest Piper Jaffray bi-annual teen survey. Fortune reports that 17 percent of teens said they own an iPhone, up from 14 percent in the October 2010 survey. iPhone use by teens at a record high and growing
Piper Jaffray has been polling US teens on their iPhone adoption rates twice a year and the current bi-annual report was released yesterday. In the survey, 4500 teens were asked about the iPhones that they already own, or plan to purchase over the next six months.

Samsung confirms WiFi-only Galaxy Tab availability: April 10th, $350
We've already seen it turn up on a few retail sites, but Samsung has now finally officially confirmed the launch details for its WiFi-only Galaxy Tab. It will be available online and at retail stores across the US on April 10th for $349.99. Elderly Georgian lady disconnects Armenian internet for half a day... by accident
A 75-year old lady from Georgia (the country, not the state) has perpetrated an impressive feat of international sabotage in what seems to have been an accident of extremely bad luck. While foraging for copper wire near her home in the village of Ksani, the unnamed septuagenarian managed to come across a critical fiber optic cable, one responsible for serving internet connectivity to "90 percent of private and corporate internet users in Armenia" and some in her own country as well. Samsung finally brings Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi to US on April 10
Samsung finally ended months of delays and said it would launch the Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Tab in the US. The Android 2.2 tablet should reach stores on April 10 and will cost about $350, or a full $250 less than the 3G version did when it shipped in the fall. iAd Gallery copying rejected app, claims suggest
Apple's newly-released iAd Gallery app may be a copy of an earlier, rejected third-party title, reports say. Several months ago a developer submitted Ads Tube, which like Gallery collects iAds into a single place for easy viewing. The app was denied from the App Store however, based on what Apple explained was a "lack of functionality."

Intel's ultra low voltage Sandy Bridge CPUs bound for MacBook Air?
The MacBook Air, while extremely popular, is one of the last lines of Apple computers not yet sporting a low power consumption Sandy Bridge processor by Intel -- the line is still running on the Core 2 Duo CPU, and while that's certainly a fast model, it's not quite the latest and greatest out there. But don't worry -- Intel has announced that it will be bringing out a new Sandy Bridge processor sometime very soon, and that's the same one expected to go into the new MacBook Air models by the end of the summer.

D-Link ships new ShareCenter two-bay NAS devices
D-Link this week shipped two new two-bay network-attached storage (NAS) products in the form of the DNS-320 and DNS-325. They replace the DNS-321 and DNS-323 and sport two 3.5-inch bays with SATA connections. Office 2011 Service Pack 1 due next week, improves Outlook compatibility
The upgrade from Microsoft Office 2008 to 2011 has not been without its drawbacks; for users of Entourage who moved to the all-new Outlook for Mac, in particular, there have been a few holes in the feature lineup. Google pulls Grooveshark from Android Market over copyright
Google has quietly dropped Grooveshark's mobile app from Android Market. Insiders said Wednesday that music labels had pushed Google into action under claims that the search-and-play service was breaking copyright law. Second Utah Apple Store seen in job listings
Utah is home to many stunning natural wonders, and soon it will be home to not one, but two Apple stores. Job listings spotted by ifoAppleStore reveals the Cupertino company may open a second retail store in the Fashion Place Mall located in Murray, Utah by the end of the year. Survey says AT&T drops more calls than Verizon, these bar charts don't lie
Wondering which carrier you should buy your iPhone on? There's a survey for that. ChangeWave Research has released the results of a poll that hit 4,068 users distributed across Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Among those four, VZW came out ahead when it comes to dropped calls, with 1.4 percent of respondents indicating they'd received one in the past three months. Tap Tap Tap developer says 5% of Camera+ users make in-app purchases
So yes, says Tap Tap Tap boss John Casasanta, US $70,000 isn't to be sniffed at, but it still represents only five percent of Camera+'s two MILLION users using the in-app purchase facility to buy the $.99 "I (heart) Analog" effects pack.
Well, whether or not you sniff at 70 grand depends rather on how much you earn elsewhere; Casasanta, in fact, has sold two million copies of Camera+ (currently on sale at $.99 instead of $1.99) so, yeah, they can consider it small change.

Georgien: 75-Jährige unterbricht Netzanbindung
In Georgien wurde von der dort zuständigen Polizei eine 75-jährige Frau festgenommen. Angeblich war sie dafür verantwortlich, dass die Internetverbindung in Teilen Georgiens und Armeniens unterbrochen wurde. Survey claims 37 percent of US teens expecting to get iPhone
About 37 percent of US teenagers are planning to get an iPhone in the next six months, according to a Piper Jaffray survey. The firm recently polled 4,500 teens, of which 17 percent said they already had an iPhone. The number of teens hoping to get an iPhone is not a reliable predictor of how many will however, since the device is too expensive for most teenagers to buy on their own.

Apple said ordering 12 petabytes of iTunes cloud storage
An insider at Isilon Systems claimed Wednesday that Apple had made an unusually large request for cloud storage systems. The company has reportedly bought 12 petabytes of space for the sake of video downloads on iTunes. Storage Newsletter's contact believed the move would be enough to make Apple the biggest Isilon customer, eclipsing video-heavy sites like DailyMotion and NBC.

Acer releases third-gen Aspire Timeline X laptops with Sandy Bridge, but only in Taiwan for now
If you've been waiting for Sandy Bridge to land on Acer's Timeline X laptops, then today's your day. Well, it depends, as these new machines are only available in Taiwan for the time being. Just a few hours ago, the lucky folks over at Engadget Chinese managed to get up close and personal with these bad boys: we have a couple of 13.3-inch 3830TGs (pictured after the break), a 14-inch 4830TG, and a 15.6-inch 5830TG (pictured above). Analyst rough estimate has just 100,000 Xooms shipped so far
Analysts at Deutsche Bank have put a potential number on talk of possibly slow Xoom sales in a new research note. Quark reveals ship date, 30-day trial for QuarkXPress 9
Quark has set an April 26th launch date for QuarkXPress 9, its flagship publishing suite. New Apple hiring points to Thunderbolt on iPhones, iPads
Apple is moving forward on bringing Thunderbolt to iOS devices, new job listings indicate. The company is currently searching for a Thunderbolt firmware/software engineer, whose role will be to "develop and maintain firmware for embedded controllers for Thunderbolt products," along with creating "corresponding Mac OS X tool and utility applications such as updaters and exercisers." White iPhone reportedly disappears from Apple inventory database

Leaks: Apple took at least 2.4m iPad 2s in March alone
Apple may have had very aggressive launch shipments of the iPad 2 despite the shortages, part suppliers said Wednesday. About 2.4 million to 2.6 million of the tablets are believed to have shipped just in March. The rate should accelerate faster still, Digitimes said, and would hit four million to 4.3 million per month in each spring month to lead to at least 12 million iPad 2s in the season.

Patent: Neuer Dock-Connector mit USB 3 und Thunderbolt?
Der Dock-Connector, mit dem alle mobilen Apple-Geräte synchronisiert und aufgeladen werden können, könnte möglicherweise demnächst aktualisiert werden. Apple hat sich eine Revision des Anschlusses patentieren lassen, die USB 3 und DisplayPort-Zugang mitbringt.

Dell to open up R&D near Apple and Intel
Dell has announced that it will open a new research and development center in Silicon Valley, near both the Apple and Intel headquarters. As Forbes reports, although Dellís HQ will remain in Texas, the new space will help it keep intellectual talent from its acquisitions of Zing, Ocarina, Scalent and Everdream under the same roof. It also aims to expand its workforce at the new R&D facility to over 1500 in the next five years.

Neue Final Cut Pro nächste Woche?
ProVideoCoalition meldet, dass Apple angeblich am 12. April die nächste Version der Video-Suite «Final Cut Pro» vorstellen wird. Apple soll die neue Version am «Final Cut Pro User Group SuperMeet» während der NAB präsentieren. Angeblich hat Apple gar den ganzen SuperMeet-Event übernommen — AJA, Avid, Canon, BlackMagic, Autodesk und andere hätten am SuperMeet ebenfalls Präsenz gehabt. Wie die oben abgebildete Ankündigung verrät, will Nokia am nächsten Dienstag um 10 Uhr Mitteleuropäischer Zeit neue Symbian-Handys vorstellen. Es handelt sich dabei um eine zu früh durchgeschlüpfte Einladung, die uns aber von Nokia auf telefonische Anfrage hin bestätigt wurde. Genaueres war nicht in Erfahrung zu bringen, vermutlich wird es bei der Veranstaltung unter anderem um die Symbian-Rundumerneuerung gehen, welche für den nächsten Herbst geplant ist.

BIOS-Hacks sollen bei Windows 8 unmöglich sein

Tiefere NASDAQ-100-Gewichtung für Apple Aktie
Die New Yorker Technologiebörse NASDAQ hat ihren «NASDAQ-100»-Index neu gewichtet. Die neue Berechnung tritt ab dem 2. Mai in kraft und wird grosse Änderungen mit sich ziehen. Vor allem profitieren wird an der neuen Formel Microsoft, Apple gilt als grosser ‘Verlierer’ der neuen Gewichtung.
Apples Aktienkurs hat in den letzten Jahren so extrem an Wert gewonnen, dass die Aktie im Verhältnis zu ihrer Marktkapitalisierung überrepäsentiert ist. Apples Wertpapier macht derzeit 20.49 Prozent des Indexes aus. Für den NASDAQ-100-Index ist Apple damit zum Beispiel fünf mal wichtiger als Google, bei der Marktkapitalisierung hat Apple aber ‘nur’ zwei mal so viel Wert wie Google. Eine Kursschwankung bei Apple beeinflusst den Index also überproportional stark.

According to their proven tipster, what we're looking at here is an upcoming webOS phone sans keyboard -- a first for Rubinstein's crew, as many of you might already know. Mozilla shames developers with list of slow performing Firefox add-ons
We know how Mozilla must feel. It spends every waking hour tweaking and perfecting Firefox to eek out as much performance as possible, only to see it all ruined by lousy add-ons that weigh the browser down like a block of cement. It's apparently now had enough, however, and has gone as far as to publish a list that exposes the worst offenders. As of this writing, the two biggest drags on the browser by far are the FoxLingo translator / dictionary and Firebug developer tool add-on which, according to Mozilla, each make the browser 74 percent slower to start up. Group video chat coming to iPhone via fring
fring is working on a group video chat implementation for its iOS and Android apps. The update will eventually allow users to chat with up to four participants onscreen at once; fring's developers are allowing users to sign up for a beta version so they can test it out before it's officially available on the App Store.

Toshiba unwraps 24nm flash memory in possible iPhone 5 clue
Toshiba upgraded its NAND flash memory Tuesday night in a possible hint at the timing and features of the iPhone 5. Its new SmartNAND is based on a dense 24 nanometer process and allows flash chips up to 64GB for "media players, tablet PCs" and other devices. According to ProVideoCoalition, Apple is planning on debuting the next version of Final Cut Pro at the Final Cut Pro User Group SuperMeet on April 12. According to PVC, "Apple will be using the Vegas Supermeet to announce the next version of Final Cut Pro. Apple granted patent for DisplayPort/Thunderbolt, USB 3.0 dock connector
Apple has been granted a patent for a new type of dock connector, discovered by PatentlyApple. The new dock connector is a "hybrid DisplayPort/USB 3.0 high speed connector. This new and extremely slim connector will work on all iOS devices like the iPod and eventually work its way through Apple's entire hardware lineup," according to the patent-tracking site. While Apple typically files patents for technologies that never see the light of day, PatentlyApple speculates that this new dock connector could be unveiled later this year or in 2012 when Apple adds USB 3.0 ports to their Mac computers.

Two iPad apps were updated today to support Apple's AirPlay technology, allowing them to be used through Apple TVs to display their content on HD televisions. New clues have suggested Intel is finally close to shipping its low-voltage Sandy Bridge-era Core processors. Netflix may be close to landing at least a pair of key content deals based on scoops Tuesday night. Talks are reportedly underway with Lions Gate to get streaming rights for every produced episode of Mad Men, which Lions Gate makes for AMC. A new patent awarded to Apple shows plans for a new, slimmer 30-pin connector -- similar to the present 30-pin connector used in various iOS devices and their peripherals -- but able to carry many different types of data, including DisplayPort dual-lane (aka Thunderbolt) and USB 3 among others. Novatel MiFi 4082 4G router ships to Sprint
Sprint on Tuesday began shipping its promised Novatel MiFi 4082 WiMAX router. The pocketable 4G hotspot is on its way now to direct orders and should be at retail shops on April 17. Pricing has been hiked upwards and will see the router cost $80 when attached to at least a $50 data plan.

Apple hints Final Cut Studio revamp by ousting meet sponsors
Apple has dropped strong hints that a Final Cut Studio overhaul would show at the NAB expo next week through curious moves with sponsors. The Final Cut Pro User Group Supermeet has said that least Avid and Canon, along with a Supermeet organizer and possibly Black Magic, have all made abrupt sponsorship and presentation exits from the gathering, which runs side-by-side with NAB. Avid explicitly blamed Apple as it "doesn't anyone to have stage time" except for itself.

ScopeBox 3 to be previewed at NAB 2011
Divergent Media will be previewing ScopeBox 3.0 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas next week, showing off the latest version of their video-monitoring and direct-to-disk capture and analysis software. The company will be giving hands-on demos and Q&A sessions at their booth (SL-10811) in the South Lower Hall. The new version introduces an all-new video processing pipeline, fail-safe capture and live editing functionality, and a new, dramatically lower price.

Apple wins appeal in Time Machine, Cover Flow patent ruling
US District Judge Leonard Davis threw out a US$625.5 million patent infringement verdict against Apple involving its Cover Flow, Time Machine and Spotlight technology for the Mac.
In 2008, Mirror Worlds filed a patent infringement lawsuit accusing Apple of infringing on four of the company's patent for a "document stream operating system" and its associated information management system. The lawsuit cited Apple's Cover Flow interface, its backup application Time Machine, and its search application Spotlight. Mirror Worlds received its four patents before it disbanded in 2003.
