Android-stuffed Cupcake comes to Nokia's Internet Tablet
It has been but a matter of hours since we first heard of the Cupcake branch of Android, but the tweaked-for-the-better operating system has apparently already made its way onto Nokia's Internet Tablets. The latest port of NITdroid is chock full of those sweet, highly fattening Cupcake goodies, and honestly, this whole development makes us cautiously optimistic about where all this is headed. Anyone care to give their N810 somethin' new to run on? Let us know how it works out.Filed under: Handhelds

Dell chastizes Apple on environmental claims
Dominant PC builder Dell has sharply criticized Apple for its environmental claims, a promotional blog post reveals. The company's community VP, Bob Pearson, has specifically taken aim at a recent MacBook ad, which suggests that the new unibody systems are the "greenest" notebooks on the market. Apple is only making broad claims without providing any long-term plans or even facts to back them up

Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds dual-screen laptop details and pics unearthed

The W700ds comes with your choice of Intel Core 2 Quad processors and combined with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M GPU. RAM maxes out at 8GB and you can stuff a total of 960GB of SSD / HDD storage into this bad boy. The primary 17-inch screen is supposedly the brightest on the market, and if there wasn't already enough to make you drool, it packs an integrated WACOM digitizer as well (like its single-screened

Cellphone hacked to analyze blood, detect diseases on the spot
Not that the whole using-cellphones-for-disease-detection is completely fresh, but the latest handset hack for medical purposes is still mighty impressive. UCLA researcher Dr. Aydogan Ozcan has essentially converted a standard cellphone into a portable blood tester of sorts, which is capable of detecting HIV, malaria and various other illnesses. Put as simply as possible, the device works by analyzing blood cells that are placed on an integrated off-the-shelf camera sensor and lit up with a filtered light source. Said light source exposes unique qualities of the cells, and from there, the doc's homegrown software interprets the data and determines

NVIDIA delivers 1.5GB QuadroFX 4800 workstation graphics card
NVIDIA's Quadro FX 4800 might not be nearly the beast that the 5800 is, but it'll only run you an arm and three-quarters of a leg versus every limb you've got. The GPU gurus over at HotHardware were able to grab hold of the 1.5GB monster, complete with a GT200 graphics processor and a sticker price around half of that shown on the aforesaid 5800 ($3,499). The board features a 602MHz GPU clock speed, 192 stream processors, an 800MHz GDDR3 clock speed, 384-bit memory controller and a PCI Express 2.0 x16 connector. Pasen's REI-16 PMP gets examined on video
We greeted the promising Pasen REI-16 with lots of skepticism, and truthfully, this thing still has some work to do to shake the dreadful shackles of the Pasen brand that we've always known. However, the video hosted up after the break does a fairly awesome job of proving that the firm's new owners are serious about producing quality kit. The unit demonstrated is described as an "almost final sample," and so far, we're really digging the interface. Everything looks satisfactorily intuitive, and on the real, we actually caught a whiff of envy watching those thumbs go to town. Don't let us down, Pasen -- we think you've got a winner on your hands here.[Via

HP TouchSmart tx2z reviewed: multitouch could use some work
HP was pretty jazzed about delivering the first multitouch "consumer" convertible tablet, but in Laptop Mag's point of view, that highly touted feature could use a bit of TLC. In fact, critics were pretty hard on the machine overall due to the multitouch not being "fast or responsive enough," but considering the $300 premium, we can't say such criticism is unjustified. Performance wise, everything was on par, and battery life was found to be respectable enough; at the end of the day, though, it only managed to score three out of five stars and couldn't elicit the type of praise that makes you want to run out and pick one up on the double. However, if HP manages to i

Dell VP criticizes Apple's 'green' initiatives, pot and kettle laugh in unison
Dell VP of Communities and Conversations Bob Pearson is ragging on Apple for its MacBook "Greenest Family of Notebooks" ads. In a post titled "The Real Meaning of Being Green," Pearson accuses Apple of not discussing environmental issues, making inaccurate claims and stating no goals, while touting Dell's energy efficient Latitude E-series and use of PVC / BFR-free components. Of course, the PC maker has had its fair share of eco-unfriendly practices over the years, including accusations from the ever-fickle Greenpeace last month that the company has withdrawn from its commitment to stop using PVC / BFR in its computers by the end

New iMac, Mac mini looking more probable after minute discovery
Rumors of a new Mac mini or iMac have been floated (and denied) for a while now, but one ferocious investigator's feasted his eyes on a few pieces of rather telling evidence recently. A poster on the InsanelyMac forums found some code in his new MacBook which referred to "iMac9,1 and Macmini3,1" which would seem to indicate that a newer version -- current iMacs and Mac minis are marked iMac8,1 and Macmini2,1 -- if both products are on the horizon. Will there or won't there be a T-Mobile G2 in the near future?
T-Mobile and HTC are clearly both pretty committed to Android -- and cheers to that, may we add -- but the real question is: is the "G" series a franchise or a one-hit wonder? And if it's a franchise, just how soon might we see a G2? Logic would suggest that T-Mobile would want to give the G1 a little breathing room before piling on cousins that risk cannibalizing market share, but Cell Phone Signal is claiming we'll see the G2 next month, and what's more, the spec sheet reads like a dream: 5-megapixel autofocus primary cam with VGA secondary cam for video calling, full touchscreen, and WiFi -- in other words, something like the "Touch HD with Android" that everyone had been hoping for. Come on now, video calling? Seriously? It gets juicier, though. B

Here's a fun game that you can play at home: what comes between "Studio XPS 13" and "Studio 15"? If you guessed "Studio 14," you can count just about as well as those Dell marketing types. Granted, granularity has always been sort of a thing with Dell, so we can't really harsh on them too much for giving us more options -- though this laptop has only popped up at Dell Malaysia so far, so perhaps we'll be spared the distinction (unlikely). For 3,599 RM (that's "Malaysian ringgits," about $1,038 of our boringly "US dollars") you can score a Core 2
