Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector finds draft areas in your abode
This one's been around the block a time or two, but sadly, it still won't be available for use as an in-law stocking stuffer. Black & Decker's $39.99 TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector packs an infrared sensor that can detect where cool air is being let in around older windows, doors, etc. You simply aim it at a suspect area on your wall or molding, set the threshold for temperature change and comprehend the readout on the LCD screen. Too bad this will be way less useful when it launches in the Spring, but Old Man Winter's never too far out.[Via Coolest Gadgets]Filed

New actions against Apple concerning anti-competition
Source : News24.comNot long free from Psystar, Apple faces a new polemic on its attitude qualified as anti-competition. This time it relates to the iPod and the iPhone since it is impossible fill the device with music and video without passing by iTunes. To arrive at this result, Apple has not hesitated to encode files essential to the support of its devices, and to change code if this had been discovered.
We think that they will have much more difficulty if they are seriously attacked on this subject compared to defeating Psystar. Indeed, it is impossible to qualify the position of Mac and Mac OS X as a monopoly, however the situation is quite different for the iPod and the iTunes Store which do not have any serious competitors.
The biggest problem for the competitors of Apple is certainly the fact that iTunes software and the online Apple boutique are inextricably linked.

Microsoft to push cool factor with retro-inspired clothing line
It's actually kind of amazing how much dough Microsoft has spent over the past little while in an attempt to polish its image in the minds of the general populace, and as if those "I'm proud to be a PC" and completely incomprehensible Gates / Seinfeld spots weren't enough, the Redmond-based outfit is about to roll out its own clothing line (dubbed "Software") this month. And no, we're not kidding. Not even a little. Microsoft has purchased the assistance of Crispin Porter & Bogusky in order to ensure the results are actually desirable, and it has also h

Moritz Waldemeyer's keyhole surgery box tests your nerves
Okay, so let's get on the same page here: Operation. Now that we're all focused on that goofy looking guy flat on a table before we all lost our innocence in this Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, let us introduce you to Moritz Waldemeyer's crafty little box. Simply dubbed keyhole surgery, the device is more or less a 3D version of the aforementioned board game, designed to see just how steady you can hold the key and complete the puzzle without brushing up against the wall. Keepin' it real fake, part CLXXI: iFone 3G is more than phonetically inaccurate
Not even 24 hours after discovering the completely befuddling iFone x1 comes this, something entirely more recognizable, yet just as wrong. The iFone 3G is -- so far as we can tell -- the first mass produced KIRF of the iPhone 3G, and if history has anything to prove, it'll be just the first in a long, long linage. The best part? The whole "3G" thing in the model name is not representative of actual data band support, so the best you'll do on this heap of festering rubbish is EDGE. At the $5 to $10 range, we could definite

DisplayPort MacBook Air users reporting high incidence of grey lines on screens
Late 2008 MacBook Air users have been reporting grey horizontal lines across the screens of their laptops according to Tidbits.
There have been slight variations in the description of the issue, but most accounts agree the lines are grey or white, horizontal or slightly angled, granulated or pixelated in appearance, and are very subtle. Overall the lines are said to give the screen the appearance of a piece of parchment or recycled paper. Also, the lines are said to appear at the initial boot; they do not develop over time. See what the lines look like for yourself in this photo.

A little birdy told us that some Netbooks would soon be arriving with Android as the OS. But that's for a different day.
Today, Android is definitely stepping up the "openness" quotient in their ecosystem by offering a SIM unlocked G1 phone "to developers". It is available in the US with free shipping for $400. Not bad really.
