Es kam überraschend. Mindestens so überraschend wie der Umschwung von Nokia auf Windows Phone 7. Vor gerade mal etwas mehr als einem einem Jahr hatte HP webOS via Palm für 1,2 Milliarden gekauft, und schon ist das Experiment vorbei und die mobilen Betriebssysteme schon wieder um einen Player geschrumpft. Der genaue Wortlaut war folgender:
"In addition, HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward."
