News: Google to acquire handset maker Motorola Mobility

Google today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. Motorola Mobility—formerly the Mobile Devices division of parent company Motorola before being spun off earlier this year—is described in the release as a “dedicated Android partner, and will be run by Google as a separate business, used to “supercharge the Android ecosystem” and “enhance competition.”…
