iOS 5 includes new APIs for face detection, investigation is said to show. One of these is CIFaceFeature, which is capable of determining where a person's eyes and mouth are located, an essential part of distinguishing individuals but also potentially usefully for other reasons. Another API, CIDetector, is used to actually process images for face detection.
