U.S. FDA proposes oversight of some mobile medical apps

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is seeking input on a proposal to oversee a certain class of mobile medical apps for smartphones and tablet devices. The proposal does not seek to regulate sale or use of consumer-level apps, but instead looks to regulate only those apps that function as an accessory to a medical device already regulated by the FDA, or which transform the phone or tablet into a regulated medical device.
