Researchers at the Columbia Engineering School claim to have achieved a significant breakthrough in photonic technology that could be used for computers. A team led by Chee Wei Wong, associate professor of mechanical engineering, demonstrated a system that allows light to propagate through a material without accumulating any phase, as if the material has a refractive index of zero.
