Bringing the magical iPad 2 on a trip to Guatemala isn't a story in itself. Of course people are going to be intrigued by the tablet, Garageband, etc. What is slightly more interesting is the fact that it survived some rather rough treatment from its owner, tech writer Robert Evans, along the way. The iPad didn't have a case (egads!) and was sat on at least once (yikes!) and ventured into a cloud and a volcano (uh oh) -- likely pushing the limits of the suggested temperature and moisture limits. The iPad 2 did fine in all these torture tests. Would a laptop have endured the same and survived? Possibly not.
