Apple CEO Steve Jobs personally called an iPad developer after his app was rejected, notes the Seattle Times. Ram Arumugam, the creator of Economy for iPad, says he turned to a private API to cope with a problem in the app's onscreen keyboard, which wasn't retracting after typing was finished. The app was correspondingly blocked from the App Store, prompting Arumugam to appeal to the review board and Jobs himself.
