Apple investigating "scrollable" menus, toolbars?

Apple could be looking into ways to innovate the presentation of palettes, toolbars and contextual menus, a patent application recently filed in Europe revealed. AppleInsider reports that the space-saving feature could become a part of either Mac OS X 10.7 ("Lion") or a future version of iOS or both, allowing menu options to take the space of a single button but "scroll" to present other icons, text or options.
