NPD has published a study concerning the American retail market. Last October, the Mac office machines accounted for 47,71% of the revenue in this market segment and the Mac portables 34%. This miracle is possible thanks to the average costs of the Apple configurations, $1338$ for the Apple versus $491 for the PC. We see the same difference for the portables, $1410 compared to $519. Apple thus is almost only present in the premium segment of this market. The iMac allows the company to gather 1 dollar out of two spent on desktop machines. This is simply colossal.
