This is a story that might well be quickly putting a company into a serious trouble. A developer was having fun in dissecting the code of tools allowing creation of USB key to be able to initiate the installation process from a disc image. While digging, he discovered that those tolls were using a large part of code originating from an Open source software released under GPL license agreement. Of course, Microsoft does not seem to have followed the rules of the GPL by uploading back its modified version of the code. The tool software has now been removed from Microsoft download center, and the company did not comment further this decision nor answered to claims.
As Microsoft is probably not willing to play with fire, one can imagine that a Microsoft developer found an easy way to quickly do his work by getting the code from the Open Source repository.
