Comment: I’ve grown to love the new Home button on the iPhone 7 [Video]
A change to the iPhone’s Home button was long-rumored, but when Phil Schiller confirmed the existence of the iPhone 7’s solid state Home button, that’s when you knew it was for real.
The iPhone 7 isn’t Apple’s first foray into this area, as the MacBook line has taken a similar approach with its trackpad. But the iPhone is way more popular than the Mac and more people own and use iPhones when compared to the Mac.
It’s common knowledge that the majority of Apple’s profits are generated by the iPhone, so a fundamental change to the device’s primary hardware input method wasn’t something for Apple hardware engineers to take lightly.
The good news is that, despite initial criticism, the iPhone 7 Home button is actually quite good once you get used to it. While it does have a few downsides, the change has produced several new positive side effects as well. more…Filed under: Apple

[Notiz] Neue Funktion: Google Maps zeigt Termine auf der Karte
Google hat die Maps-App für Android um eine neue Funktion ergänzt, mit der Termine auf der Karte angezeigt werden können. Um die neue Funktion nutzen zu können, muss im „Wo“-Feld des Termins eine Adresse eingetragen werden. Ist der Anwender sowohl bei Maps als auch bei Kalender angemeldet, erscheint der Termin auf der Karte.

So soll der iPhone-Rivale Google Pixel aussehen
Am 4. Oktober stellt Google mit dem Pixel sein neues Android-Smartphone vor. Erstmals sind nun Bilder des Geräts aufgetaucht, das als Gegenstück zum iPhone 7 positioniert wird. Offenbar wird es neben dem 5-Zoll-Modell mit dem Pixel XL auch eine Variante mit 5,5-Zoll-Display geben.

Angela Ahrendts: Die Schein-Degradierung von Apples Retail-Chefin
Bei Apple dreht sich dieser Tage alles um die Optimierung. Davon bleiben Berufsbezeichnungen nicht verschont. Über das Wochenende hat es Angela Ahrendts getroffen, die seit 2014 bei Apple ist. Sie war vormals „Senior Vice President, Retail and Online Stores”. Letzterer Teil wurde gestrichen, was vermutlich damit zusammenhängt, dass Apple seine Einkaufsmöglichkeiten nicht mehr zwischen online und offline unterscheiden möchte.

iPhone 7: Wie viel Saphirglas steckt in der Kameraabdeckung?
„Wo ist das Saphirglas?”, das fragten wir uns, nachdem ein Nutzer sein iPhone 7 malträtiert hat und dabei nicht nur den Bildschirm, sondern auch die Kamera-Abdeckung zerkratzt hat. Das Werkzeug, das dafür nötig war, war genau dasselbe wie jenes für den Bildschirm, weshalb die vorschnelle Schlussfolgerung naheliegt, dass Apple gar kein Saphirglas verwendet. macOS Sierra Available as an Automatic Download Starting Today
Starting today, Apple is making the new macOS Sierra operating system available as an automatic download to customers running OS X El Capitan in order to encourage them to update.
Customers who have auto downloads enabled will see macOS Sierra start to download automatically, but it will not install without express user permission.
Apple shared the news with The Loop and says the update will only be downloaded on computers that meet the specs for macOS Sierra and have an adequate amount of storage space.Apple is also being smart about the download. If your computer is low on space, macOS Sierra will not download. In addition, if it has downloaded and your computer starts to get low on space, the download will be automatically deleted.Customers who do not want to upgrade to macOS Sierra can manually delete the update to keep from being prompted to do the install, and the download can be turned off by disabling automatic downloads. macOS Sierra: Apple veröffentlicht 10.12.1 Beta 3
Heute hat Apple für Entwickler die dritte Beta-Version von macOS Sierra 10.12.1 veröffentlicht. Von der Build-Nummer (16B2338c) abgesehen, verrät Apple nicht, was sich geändert haben könnte. Im App Store steht außerdem die Warnung, dass das Update ohne Backup nicht rückgängig gemacht werden kann. Aus einem älteren Bericht geht hervor, dass Apple die Beta als „letzte Chance” für das vorinstallierte System auf den kommenden Macs nutzen will.

Apple releases macOS 10.12.1 beta 3 for Mac
Apple has released the third macOS 10.12.1 beta for Mac. The third seed follows last week’s beta 2 release and the first beta two weeks ago which don’t yet include any notable changes. How-To: Download all Apple Music on iPhone or iPad locally using iTunes
Downloading your complete Apple Music collection to your iPhone or iPad is surprisingly difficult, even on the redesigned and simpler iOS 10 update. There’s no obvious ‘download all’ button and iCloud Music Library moves all syncing to iCloud, not iTunes, so you can’t just shuttle your library from your Mac to your iPhone or iPad.
If you like to keep a local music library, this is a problem you will likely face when you upgrade to a new iPhone even if you restore from an encrypted backup using iTunes, which is considered the most efficient method. iPad Pro: Drei neue Modelle im Frühjahr 2017
In diesem Jahr sollen von Apple vielleicht noch neue Macs, aber keine iPads kommen. Die Tablets soll sich der Hersteller für den Frühling aufsparen. News: Report: 2017 iPad Pro line to add 7.9” mini model, replace 9.7” model with 10.1”

News: Apple ordered to pay $302.4M over FaceTime patents
Apple has been ordered to pay $302.4 million in damages after losing another round in its years-long legal fight with patent holder VirnetX, Reuters reports. In 2012, a jury awarded VirnetX $368.2 million in damages over Apple’s use of its patented security technology in the company’s FaceTime app, but an appeals court overturned the verdict over issues with how the damages were calculated. Apple’s Danish data center the ‘largest foreign investment in country’s history’
Apple announced plans for two new European data centers back in 2015, one in Ireland, the second in Denmark. The Irish one hasn’t had the smoothest of rides when it comes to planning permission, so it’ll be hoping for better luck with the Danish project, now confirmed to be situated in Foulum, a small village in Central Jutland.
The Danish foreign minister Kristin Jensen told CPH Post that the DKK6.3B ($950M) project would represent the largest foreign capital investment in the country’s history. Tim Cook said back in 2015 that the Irish and Danish projects combined would also be Apple’s biggest investment in Europe to date.
Apple had already confirmed that the new center would run on 100% renewable energy, but Jensen says that the company’s commitment to renewables in the area goes further than this …

Fortuna is new fortune generator for the Mac
SchwanSongs (http://www.schwansongs.com/fortuna/) has launched Ask Fortuna 1.0, a fortune generator for the Mac. It creates almost-random sayings and prescient prognostications.
According to the folks at SchwanSongs, these aren’t plagiarized lists of old quotes, nor are they completely random sentences of computer-speak; They are something in between.

BatchOutput PDF is ready for macOS Sierra
Zevrix Solutions has released BatchOutput PDF 2.2.23, a compatibility update to its solution to automate PDF printing with watched hot folders on Mac.
Users only need to drop PDF files into hot folders and they’ll be printed automatically using the linked output preset. Version 2.2.23 makes BatchOutput PDF compatible with the macOS Sierra.

Apples Retail-Geschäft wird von Angela Ahrendts geleitet. Sie ist auch für den Apple Online Store zuständig. Das konnte man früher an ihrer Job-Bezeichnung ablesen, jetzt aber nicht mehr. Kickstarter: $10 iLDOCK will let you charge your iPhone 7 and use headphones simultaneously
A new Kickstarter campaign is hoping to solve two issues associated with the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. A). the lack of a 3.5mm headphone port, and B). the inability to charge the iPhone 7 while listening to music.
To be fair, Apple does include a Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter in the iPhone 7 box, so I wouldn’t go as far as to call that a real problem, but the inability to charge and listen to headphones at the same time may pose a legitimate issue for some.
If funded, the Kickstarter campaign for the iLDOCK hopes to launch a small Lightning-enabled dongle that brings back the 3.5mm headphone jack, and features a Lightning input for charging. more…Filed under: Apple

Comment: No, iPhone 7 isn’t exploding like the recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7
I don’t have any hard data on this, folks, but I have a hunch that the iPhone 7 does not combust in the same way that the recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7 does. It’s trendy in news to apply one attention-grabbing narrative to an unrelated story, but there’s no evidence that suggests the iPhone 7 explodes in normal use like Samsung’s recalled flagship – despite that virally burned up iPhone 7 image.

Poll: Is your iPhone 7 or iOS 10 device experiencing Bluetooth connectivity issues?
As Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have started to reach more customers, we’ve been getting more and more reports that users are facing a multitude of issues when pairing with their Bluetooth devices. With every iOS and iPhone release, issues are bound to arise.
Though one that stems on the wireless future that Apple has so courageously laid out makes this one all the more impactful. A majority of the reports appear to be coming from users with in-car Bluetooth systems, but we’re also hearing users facing issues from frequently dropped connections, to devices that will show they’re paired even when they’re not. Are you seeing any of these issues on your devices?

Apple negotiating with Sharp to supply OLED displays for next-generation ‘iPhone 8’ in 2017
Apple currently uses LCD display technology for all of its iPhones but this appears to be changing next year with the rumored radically-new iPhone in 2017, following the iPhone 7’s smaller, iterative, design changes. Many reports have said that the next-generation iPhones, dubbed ‘iPhone 8’, will feature OLED displays for the first time. More indicators for this has come to light today with Bloomberg reporting that Apple is negotiating with Sharp to produce OLED panels for its phones.

Black hat security company increases bounty to $1.5M as iOS 10 ‘much harder to exploit’
Black hat security company Zerodium – which seeks to find vulnerabilities in iOS and Android to sell to corporate and government clients – has increased its maximum bounty for zero-day iOS 10 exploits to $1.5M. It previously offered $1M for iOS 9 vulnerabilities.
A zero-day vulnerability is one not yet known to the developer, so companies have zero days to prepare for exploits. The company’s founder told Arstechnica that the increased reward reflected the improved security in the latest version of iOS. He also explained why the company pays far more for iOS vulnerabilities than Android ones …

Apple Pay reportedly coming to Taiwan’s four big banks as soon as this year
A brief Digitimes report suggests that Taiwan is one of the next countries in line to get Apple Pay, possibly by the end of the year.
Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission has started accepting applications from banks for providing Apple Pay mobile payment services and Taiwan users will be able to apply for using Apply Pay at the end of 2016 at the earliest.
Four banks are expected to support the service …

Third-wave iPhone 7 launch on Oct 14, then Samsung’s home market on Oct 21 [U]
Update: Apple is also showing the October 14 date for Macao, Macedonia, Malaysia, Montenegro and Turkey, and it’s likely we’ll see more countries added soon.
Apple Premium Reseller iStore has tweeted that the iPhone 7 is coming to South Africa on October 14, with the information confirmed on both its website, above, and now Apple’s site too. We heard a week ago that it will be hitting India on October 7.
ET News is also reporting that Apple’s new iPhone is expected to be launched in Samsung’s home market of South Korea a week later, on October 21 – though it notes that this is not yet certain.
Through discussion that took place [yesterday], Apple Korea and three mobile network providers have decided to release the iPhone 7 on the 21st of October, based on final approval from Apple Headquarters.
Apple products are currently sold in South Korea only by third parties, but it appears that Apple has plans to take on Samsung directly on its home turf &helli

Apple pulling #1 Top Paid sticker pack over faked iMessage bubbles, clarifies no prank apps allowed
In the first high-profile iMessage App Store rejection we’ve seen, the developer of the Phoneys sticker pack says Apple has reached out with bad news: the company will pull the app in a week if it is not significantly changed. Phoneys (currently) features stickers that look like iMessage bubbles, effectively allowing users to replace messages from their friends with some funny alternative text.

Unlike previous versions of watchOS, the ability to take screenshots is disabled by default in watchOS 3. Screenshots are disabled due to the fact that the screenshot-taking shortcut overlaps functionality used by the Workout app.

Second report of 10-inch iPad Pro, along with new iPad mini Pro & refreshed 12.9-inch model
A KGI report in August said that Apple was planning to launch three new iPads in 2017, and suggested that the 9.7-inch model would grow in size slightly to 10.5-inches. A Macotakara piece today also suggests three new iPad Pro models are coming up in the spring of next year, with some details overlapping the KGI report and others differing.
Makotakara supports the idea of a slightly larger standard-sized iPad Pro, though it suggests the diagonal screen size will be 10.1 rather than 10.5 inches. The larger screen size will be achieved by making the external dimensions 1cm longer and 0.5cm wide, it says …
