Microsoft bringt Kinect der Xbox One 2014 auf den PC
Zum Konzept der am Dienstag offiziell vorgestellten „Xbox One“ gehörte auch eine deutlich verbesserte Version des Gestensteuerung „Kinect“. Wie gleich mehrere Microsoft-Mitarbeiter verrieten, wird Kinect jedoch nicht exklusiv auf die hauseigene Konsole beschränkt werden, sondern auch für den PC erscheinen.

Report claims details of iPhone 5S, fifth-gen iPad, low-cost iPhone
A new Macotakara report claims to have learned details about several upcoming Apple products, beginning with the rumored low-cost iPhone. The site says it has heard conflicting views from two sources on colors; one alleges that the phone will come in navy, white, gray, and gold orange tones, while another mentions white, pink, green, blue, and yellow orange. In both cases, black is omitted.

Amazon's MacBook Air stock dwindles
Last week TUAW reported on the diminishing numbers of MacBook Airs available from third-party retailers like Best Buy. Now the source of that information, AppleInsider, is reporting that Amazon is completely sold out of the 11.6-inch low-end MacBook Air (1.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 64 GB storage) with other models showing that they're "n/a".
AppleInsider points out that Amazon's listing for the entry-level 11.6-inch model is "consistent with a discontinued item on Amazon, with no indication that stock will be replenished. In contrast, the online retailer typically portrays a simple stockout

Microsoft Inaccurately Depicts Windows Tablet as Larger than iPad in New Comparison Ad
To go along with two previously released anti-iPad Windows 8 tablet ads, Microsoft has released a side-by-side comparison of the iPad and various Windows 8 tablets, such as the ASUS VivoTab Smart, the same tablet that was used in the aforementioned ad. In the comparison, Microsoft points out the many reasons why the VivoTab is superior, noting its thinner size and lighter weight. Microsoft also includes a diagram of the 9.7-inch iPad next to a 10.1-inch widescreen tablet that looks visibly larger. Pioneer debuts third generation AppRadio in-dash entertainment system
Pioneer Electronics has deployed two new smartphone connectivity options for the car with two versions of its next generation AppRadio 3 smartphone connected in-dash receiver -- the SPH-DA210 and the SPH-DA110. Both AppRadio 3 models feature compatibility with MirrorLink enabled smartphones in addition to the current AppRadio compatibility with both iOS and select Android smartphones.

Box acquires Folders, in what sounds like the least exciting acquisition deal ever
Filesharing service Box has acquired the technology behind a French app called Folders, which is also centered on browsing and sharing files on the iPhone. Terms of the acquisition weren't revealed, but Box said that Folders would be a big influence on the next few iterations of the filesharing software. The company also noted that its iPhone and iPad apps will be "cleaner, faster and more beautiful throughout 2013."
Folders is still available as a 99-cent download right now, but presumably that app will be abandoned or replaced as Box integrates it into the main offering. Box boasts more than 15 million users at 150,000

iAd gets Media Ratings Council aaccreditation
The Media Ratings Council has awarded full accreditation to Apple's iAd, the first mobile ad platform to achieve that status, says Advertising Age. The accreditation reflects iAd's compliance with standards set by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and the Mobile Marketing Association. That includes accurate reporting of data such as taps, visits, views, impressions, conversations, and average time spent.

Apple cites FRAND ruling to ITC, calls Samsung behavior egregious
Apple has wasted no time filing with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) regarding the landmark ruling from May 22 enjoining a standards essential patent holder from enforcing a potential ITC-ordered sales embargo. Study: Mobile gamers download five titles a month, mostly through word of mouth
A new study released by Applifier says that word of mouth is still the number one way mobile game players find the games they like. That doesn't necessarily mean in-person discussion about mobile games, however, though 36% of users did report that hearing from a friend or family member was a major source of games, and 25% of users said actually seeing a friend or family member play a game was one way they found out about their favorites. 43% of users, however, say reading user reviews was the main way they found what they liked to play.

New Colors Rumored for iPhone 5S and Lower-Cost iPhone, Dual LED Flash for iPhone 5S?
Macotakara has released a report with new details on a number of upcoming products, including the rumored low cost iPhone, the iPhone 5S, and the iPad 5. Citing information from several different sources, the site suggests that the low cost iPhone may ship in a number of different colors and that it will begin trial production soon. Color choices for the low cost iPhone remain murky, as the site has heard rumors from two different sources. The first source said that the low cost iPhone will come in colors that include navy, gold orange, white, and gray, while a second source named white, pink, green, blue, and yellow orange as the available colors. A common theme, however, is that the low cost iPhone will not include a black option.

Evernote introduces reminders to Mac, iOS apps
One of the reasons that I've never been a super-user of Evernote is that while it's a great place to save your notes, scans, and other materials, it's never had the ability to simply let you know when you need to get something done. Instead, it has always relied on another app to give you a heads-up that you need to work on something. Today, Evernote released updates for the Mac and iOS clients that introduce a build-in reminder function.

Unabhängig von der Schönheit von Riposte und den Link Annotations von Felix hat sich in den letzten Wochen hAppy in den Vordergrund gedrängt und mittlerweile sogar einen prominenten Platz in meinem Launch Center erreicht. hAppy, dieses unendlich hässliche Ding, hat in der letzten Zwei wahnsinnig aufgeholt (und ist sogar weniger hässlich geworden).
Einige der interessanten Funktionen:
Drosselkom-Modus, bei dem alle Bilder ausgeblendet werden. Auch die Avatare. Diese werden dabei durch Farben ersetzt. Man kann die Personen also nach wie vor unterscheiden. Bilder können natürlich bei Bedarf nachgeladen werden.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Developer Edition coming soon to AT&T and Verizon
Samsung will be releasing developer editions of the Galaxy S 4 for AT&T and Verizon, according to the company's site. At least for now, the phone will only be offered in Black Mist, and internal storage is listed as 16GB. It's not clear exactly when the devices will come to their respective carriers, but they likely won't be offered with a subsidy when they do. For those considering purchasing Sammy's latest flagship handset, this offers an alternative to the several carrier variants, not to mention the stock Jelly Bean version

Twitter #Music adds new chart features
When Twitter launched its music discover service Twitter #Music last month the service had a lot going for it. Spotify and Rdio support for streaming full songs, music discovery based on what was trending at the moment, and the #NowPlaying feature that shows what your friends are listening to added a lot to the service. But it had one major flaw: It lacked specificity. It lacked Charts that allowed you to see the top artists in genres, that you cared about. And now, that problem has been fixed.

Apple: WWDC keynote coming Monday, June 10
Apple has formally announced that the Worldwide Developers Conference will begin with the traditional keynote address, set for the first day of the conference: Monday, June 10. Unusually this year, the company has pre-announced that the convention (and presumably the keynote) will focus on the forthcoming OS X 10.9 and iOS 7. Though not included in the announcement, CEO Tim Cook is expected to headline the presentation.

NYT Columnist Joe Nocera laughably calls Tim Cook a liar
As we reported previously, Tim Cook and two other Apple executives appeared before Congress earlier this week to discuss Apple's tax practices. The focus of the hearing centered on how Apple manages to keep the bulk of its foreign earned cash overseas and what might be done to incentivize Apple to bring that cash back to the U.S.
In an op-ed piece in the New York Times today, columnist Joe Nocera misconstrues the events which took place at the hearing and proceeds to characterize Tim Cook as a liar who, according to Nocera, learned how to create a 'reality distortion field' from Steve Jobs.

Brother has rolled out a new range of digital color all-in-one devices aimed at small business users. It's official -- June 10 is the date for the Apple WorldWide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote.
Although we have no idea what (if any) new products will be released, the keynote is sure to be of interest to every Apple fan anxious to see what a Scott Forstall-less iOS 7 or Mac OS X 10.9 will look like.

Apple Confirms WWDC Keynote Presentation Will Be Monday June 10th
In an unsurprising announcement, Apple has confirmed that the keynote address for the Worldwide Developers Conference will be at the Moscone Center on June 10, the first day of the conference. The company did not disclose any speakers or agenda, but Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to take the stage with other Apple executives to present new versions of both OS X and the iOS operating systems. Briefly: Evernote gains reminders, Microsoft offers two new mice
Evernote has added one of the most requested features to its iOS, Mac and Web apps, reminders. Available for all Evernote customers, the new option is represented with an alarm clock icon in the top-right corner of the web and Mac interfaces, and at the bottom of a note in the iOS apps. Reminders saved within the app will provide users with in-app alarms, as well as optional e-mail alerts when a reminder is due. Microsoft has released a new ad featuring the Windows 8 ASUS VivoTab Smart tablet and an iPad. The commercial slams the iPad pretty hard by picking and choosing examples of things the iPad can't do that Windows 8 tablet can, like live updating of tile apps, its inability to use multiple apps at once, and lack of Microsoft PowerPoint support. The kicker here is that the ad is narrated by actual responses from Siri. The ad ends with Siri asking, "Should we just play chopsticks?" -- poking fun at a previous iPad mini commercial.

Samsung Galaxy S4 & Google Now sollen Apple-Patente verletzen
In der letzten Woche wurde bekannt, dass Apple das Samsung Galaxy S4 in einen Patentstreit mit Samsung einbeziehen will. Auf welche Patente man sich bei der Klageerhebung genau stützt, gab Apple damals nicht an.
Durch eine neue Eingabe vor Gericht wurde nun klar, welche eigenen Patente Apple durch das neue Flaggschiff von Samsung verletzt sieht.
Drei der fünf verletzten Patente betreffen gemäss der Eingabe von Apple die Datensynchronisation, das Betriebssystem sowie die Benutzeroberfläche.
Gemäss den Unterlagen von Apple verstösst auch Googles Suchassistent «Now» gegen zwei der fünf betroffenen Patente. Ursprünglich richtete sich die Klage gegen die in Android integrierte Suchfunktion. Voilà: Auch Google Drive bekommt ein neues Interface. Zumindest die Android-App setzt nun ebenfalls auf die beliebte Karten-Darstellung. Wem das nicht passt, kann jederzeit zur herkömmlichen Ansicht zurück. Die Karten-Optik bietet eine Preview auf die jeweiligen Files (auf dem Smartphone nicht sonderlich informativ, weil zu klein) und den Datei-Typen. Twitter for Mac finally gains Notification Center support
Well, here's something I thought we would never see -- a minor update for Twitter for Mac, which finally brings Notification Center support to the client. You know, it only took just shy of 10 months after the release of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion for that to happen. The 2.2.1 update also fixes Growl notifications in Lion and Mountain Lion and squashes several other bugs. But reviews are already coming in saying that the Growl fix doesn't work.

Swisscom erhöht Geschwindigkeit des LTE-Netzes
Die Swisscom hat heute angekündigt, dass die maximale Geschwindigkeit des LTE-Netzes ab sofort signifikant erhöht wird. Statt wie bisher mit 100 Mbit/s werden die Nutzer ab sofort mit bis zu 150 Mbit/s ins Internet gelangen können.
Um von dieser Geschwindigkeitssteigerung profitieren zu können, benötigen Nutzer ein «NATEL infinity XL-Abonnement». Dabei handelt es sich um das teuerste Abo der Swisscom mit einem Preis von CHF 169.— pro Monat. Zusätzlich wird ein Endgerät verlangt, welches die höhere Geschwindigkeit unterstützt. Aktuell ist noch kein solches Gerät im Handel, womit man auch mit dem iPhone 5 nicht direkt von den höheren Geschwindigkeiten profitieren wird. Ab Juni will die Swisscom einen USB-Stick sowie das «Huawei Ascend P2» für CHF 629.— ins Sortiment aufnehmen.

iPhone Kundenzufriedenheit lässt langsam nach
Im Rahmen des großen American Customer Satisfaction Reports konnte das Apple iPhone erneut den ersten Platz in Punkto Kundenzufriedenheit sichern. Redesign des Apple Online Stores: Hinweis auf nächstes iOS und OS X?
Apple hat im Verlaufe des gestrigen Tages den Apple Online Store für kurze Zeit vom Netz genommen. und einige Design-Anpassungen vorgenommen.
Augenfällig ist das Fehlen der linken Navigationsleiste, mit welcher man einen direkten Zugang zu einigen Zubehör-Artikeln hatte. Stattdessen klickt man nun direkt auf die Geräte-Symbole in der Top-Navigation und gelangt so auf die Bestellseite für den Mac, das iPhone, das iPad oder den iPod. Über die Bestellseiten kann dann das Produkt sowie das passende Zubehör für das entsprechende Gerät bestellt werden.

Google has announced plans to start deprecating most download options for projects hosted on Google Code. Beginning today, both existing and new projects without any downloads will lose the ability to create them. Existing projects that do have downloads will no longer be able to create additional ones as of January 15th. "All existing downloads in these projects will continue to be accessible for the foreseeable future," Google adds.

Twitter for Mac gets Notification Center ties; Rdio updates iOS app
Twitter has released a new version of its free Mac client, v2.2.1. While mostly a maintenance update, it also adds OS X Notification Center integration, pushing alerts whenever a mention or direct message is received. Some of the update's fixes solve broken Growl notifications, the account switcher going missing in the composer window, and a bug that prevented un-favoriting tweets.

Casemaker OtterBox buys out rival LifeProof
At an event today at this week's CTIA conference, major casemaker OtterBox announced the acquisition of one of its chief rivals, LifeProof. The former says it will keep LifeProof's San Diego location, and that workers will remain in their current place. "Over the next 30 days, OtterBox will begin incorporating the LifeProof brand into the OtterBox family," an OtterBox statement reads. Heute wurde der American Customer Satisfaction Report veröffentlicht, für den insgesamt 70.000 Menschen in den USA zu 230 Unternehmen aus 43 Branchen interviewt wurden. Interessant hierbei, sind die Ergebnisse bei der Kundenzufriedenheit bei Handys bezogen auf die Hersteller. Am frühen Vormittag war der Online-Auftritt des Apple Stores knapp eineinhalb Stunden offline. Neue Produkte suchte man nach der Downtime vergeblich. iOS 7: Flickr- und Vimeo-Integration geplant
In den letzten beiden iOS-Versionen integrierte Apple bereits zwei Soziale Netzwerke, Twitter und Facebook. Apple nennt fünf Patente, gegen die Samsung Galaxy S4 und Google Now verstoßen

OtterBox acquires LifeProof
OtterBox, a pioneer in smartphone case technology based in Ft. Collins, Colorado, today got a little bit larger. The company acquired LifeProof, a company that builds a line of waterproof cases that provide superior protection without adding a lot of bulk or weight to devices.
OtterBox will begin incorporating the LifeProof line into its own line of cases over the next month, and it appears that both companies will retain existing employees for the time being. OtterBox has about 650 employees worldwide, while LifeProof has about 250 in its San Diego office.

Apple: Google Now violates Siri patents
We recently asked if Apple's ongoing legal battles with Samsung were worth the effort for the computer giant. As if to answer our question, this week Apple amended their infringement claims with a new motion filed in the second California patent case targeting five patents that the Galaxy S4 infringes on.
