Apple eyeing Intel platform for future iPhone?
Filed under: CellphonesIt sounds a bit odd that Apple would have to "consider" Intel for anything -- you know, considering that it provides the processors for the Mac lineup and all -- but according to DigiTimes, Cupertino could be looking Intel's way for a future iPhone platform. Granted, this rumor is indeed one of the weaker ones we've seen, and it's no secret that Apple tends to shift from vendor to vendor in order to keep costs down, but it's being reported that the firm could be "considering developing an iPhone" based on the Moorestown platform. Make of that what you will, but at least we k

Prototype mobile showcases e-ink keypad
An e-ink primary display on a cellphone? Eh, that's so 2006. On display at Japan's CEATEC show this week is a prototype clamshell that flips the concept on its head, moving the e-ink down below. The benefits are pretty obvious -- different keypad configurations can be shown in different phone modes, a tactic that's been explored before -- but unlike phones that use OLED or LCD displays, e-ink only requires power whe

Several readers reported to have seen their hardware shipment dates postponed without explanation for couple of days. It applies to all hardware models, not only notebooks or desktops. Now all shipments are announced from October 8th. So our yesterday's prediction for an official release next Friday, October 5th (10.5) might have been a right guess.

Gibson launching self-tuning guitars, rockers rejoice
Filed under: Misc. Gadgets, Portable Audio
Gibson's Powertune system has been in the works for quite awhile, and although there are other axes out there that claim to tune themselves, only a Gibson will do for some. Reportedly, the firm is readying a "new line of instruments" that are equipped with the system, which includes "an additional set of pickups mounted underneath the strings that are used specifically for the tuning process." By using all sorts of digital electronics and fancy algorithms, the equipment is able to automatically tune the strings, but it only activates when users pull out the

CDEX's meth gun gets field tested
Last summer, CDEX's meth gun was marginally more than a drawing board creation made real, but now the drug scanner is actually being used in field tests before it hits the production line later this year. Reportedly, the device is being tested in Arizona, and it seems as though the trials are going quite smoothly. It's also noted that future iterations could actually posses the ability to "test other drugs as well, even explosives," but the current flavor should eventually cost somewhere between $500 and $600, which is still a great deal cheaper than we had previously heard.[Via

Mouth-mounted camera leads to unconventional art

Hanging a camera on the side of your dome is one thing, but cramming one in your throat takes a level of bravado we have no experience with. Still, we can't help but toss props to Mr. Justin Quinnell, who somehow managed to insert a camera into his throat and snap a few interesting photos which he's currently selling as art. We know, the above image alone probably grossed quite a few of you out, but for those into this, be sure and hit the read link for a real mouthful.[Via
