A software project centered around protecting encryption has offered to help Apple secure future software updates from potential court-ordered backdoors in the future. Cothority would in theory allow Apple and other software producers to have a large number of witnesses sign an update with individual encryption keys, minimizing the risks involved where only one entity signs an update and is coerced into providing governments access to the encrypted data.
