The lat update from Norton Anti-Virus resulted in a disaster in China: millions of PC running Norton application on Windows XP crashed, without any chance to reboot. The reason is quite simple: Anti-Virus filters identified 2 libraries in the Chinese version of Windows XP as potential virus or thread, and blocked them. As a consequence, after the crash of the system one can not reboot it. Symantec is working on a solution to fix the issue, however it will be difficult as most computers can not boot anymore.
This story illustrates why one should always be cautious when authorizing automatic updates of software or applications, especially for such critical ones.
