In 1957, Sputnik I was launched by Soviet Union as the first artificial satellite. Since then, many countries have launched satellites for all kinds of purposes, such as research, communication, navigation, and more. Today, there are almost 2,500 artificial satellites orbiting the Earth, and Satellite Safari by Southern Stars aims to help users to understand the purpose behind a great many of them.
