London's Westminster City Council is installing iPad-controlled street lights to ease maintenance and save energy. The group hopes to have 14,000 of the units installed within the next four years. Once in place, the bulbs will be able to alert techs to pending failures. Also, workers will be able to more easily control when they come on and off, reducing energy costs.
The initiative will cost around GBP 3.25 million, but the council believes it will pay for itself within seven years. So, who's going to start hacking these things?
