Apple's new, smaller dock connector format may actually use 8 pins instead of 19, two iLounge sources claim. One of the people adds that the new format could have some other features, such as possibly connecting to docks and cables in either orientation, much like MagSafe connectors. The 8-pin claim would conflict, though, with most reports about the new format, which have held to Apple using at least 16 pins and more often 19.
