A new version of Facebook Messenger featuring in-app notifications, faster loading, and additional contact information has been released in the App Store. Version 1.8 allows users to see who is available when starting a new conversation, as well as to include friends of friends in conversations. Support for sharing larger images has also been added, and the new in-app notifications provide users with a quick method for switching between conversations. Other changes include improved navigation, more-reliable push notifications, and a host of general bug fixes.
