The Kindle 4.1 update has arrived for the $79 advertising-supported basic Kindle reader. The upgrade brings a higher contrast display mode, with a "crisper" reading font. Extended parental controls regulate access control on the experimental web browser, archived items, and the Kindle store. Format support has been increased to include Amazon Kindle Format 8. The update is available now through Amazon, and will be pushed via Wi-Fi "in the coming weeks."
