An investigation by Ars Technica into the levels of security used by Apple to protect data uploaded to iCloud has found that data should be "at least as safe as data stored on any remote server, if not more so" and that almost none of the data is shared with third parties apart from that required for a credit card transaction, which may compare iCloud favorably to similar cloud storage run by services such as Google or Amazon.
