Unofficial claims from notebook contractors pointed to there being a steeper than usual drop-off in notebook shipments for the usual post-holiday drop. They expected a 10 to 15 percent slump, owed in part to companies watching hard drive shortages stemming from Thai flooding. There had already been a five-point sequential drop in the fall where shipments had grown 15 percent at the same point a year ago.
