Bypassing the preamp already found on most iOS devices, Tascam's new iM2 dock-connector stereo mic for the iPhone 4, iPad and recent iPod Touch family offers recorders the ability to handle noise levels of up to 125 decibels without distortion. The new product uses a pair of condenser microphones borrowed from the company's DR recorder lineup with a 180-degree adjustable joint and also uses its own analog-to-digital converter.
