Android-based smartphones may be more prone to hardware failure than phones running iOS, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry OSes. A study, conducted by UK-based Wireless Data Services (WDS), has found that 14 percent of technical support calls regarding Android phones were related to hardware problems, compared to 11 percent for Windows Phone, seven percent for iOS and six percent for BlackBerry OS. The cost to wireless providers of returning the Android phones and repairing them could be as much as $2 billion annually, the company claimed.
