Going with an HTML5-based web app rather than using Apple's App Store has paid off for the London-based Financial Times, which says it now has more than 700,000 subscribers through its own portal, making it more popular than the native apps that were offered until the end of the August, when Apple and the FT parted ways, largely over the former's refusal to divulge subscriber data. The figure represents a gain of roughly 95,000 users over the last year.
