Readers as well as multiple news outlets are reporting widespread phone outages across the East Coast following an earthquake. The Virginia tremor, which hit 6 on the Richter scale according to the USGS, has at least temporarily managed to disrupt cellphone and landline service on AT&T, Verizon, and possibly other carriers. It's unclear how much of this is a genuine break in service versus just the networks being overwhelmed by calls from others.
