Apple has switched from LG to Samsung display driver chipsets on newer production runs of the iPad 2, says analysis firm Chipworks, as quoted by iFixit. For some time the tablet was dependent on an LG chipset labeled the SW0627B; the silicon in fact has an earlier history with Apple, having previously been used for the iPad 1. The Samsung chipset is a Wise-View model, but little else is known about it or why Apple would make a switch.
