The per-person average of downloaded iOS apps is up 61 percent in 2011 over 2010, according to estimates by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. The 2011 figure is calculated to be about 83 apps, versus 51 in 2010. "Smartphone users are showing an increasing appetite to use apps to add features to their phones," claims Munster, "and iOS has the leading app ecosystem."
