Future iOS handhelds could see indicators or touch-sensitive buttons built into their bezels, a newly-published Apple patent application hints. Titled Electronic Devices with a Primary Display and a Selectively Illuminated Secondary Display, the document proposes embedding a secondary display -- such as a "printed segmented electroluminescence display" -- which could be used to guide people around the main interface. Adding touch panels would allow the indicators to serve as their own controls, Apple notes.
