AT&T in its T-Mobile buyout presentation made clear plans to shift T-Mobile's spectrum if the deal is approved. It would move T-Mobile devices away from 1,700MHz 3G and towards its own 850MHz and 1,900MHz bands, freeing up the 1,700MHz space for LTE. The 4G-class service would in turn get extra coverage, either through overlap in cities or in rural areas where 1,700MHz is available but 700MHz might not.
