The Times Square New Year's Eve countdown received a symbolic modernization today as it has received its first mobile apps. A Toshiba-supplied app for iOS (free, App Store) and Android both offers the requisite countdown, including a live stream, as well as a unique tie-in to the countdown ball itself. Users will have the option of uploading a photo with Facebook voting that could help push it to one of the Toshiba-run displays in Times Square, including under the ball.
