Japan's DoCoMo will launch 4G network Christmas Eve

DoCoMo of Japan will open its fourth-generation LTE cellular network for data use only on Dec. 24th, boasting speeds up to 10 times faster than the current 3G service. Maximum download rates may hit 75Mbps, with maximum upload speeds about half that, or 37.5Mbps. Eventually, the company suggests, download speeds on LTE will reach 300Mbps. On launch, the service will cover large portions of Tokyo, and also be available in parts of Nagoya, Osaka and a few other areas, with coverage reaching most major cities by April of 2011.
