CherryPal, the California-based maker of the $99 Linux netbook for Africa, has just announced the CherryPad America tablet. Its 7-inch, 800x480 touchscreen is matched by Android 2.1 and has access to the Android Market with enough visual performance for 3D gaming. The electronics firm talks up the device as a "sub-iPad" tablet that sits in the category but doesn't compete with Apple's $499 hardware.
