HTC today said it had set a record for the company after nearly doubling its profit in the summer. The Taiwan-area smartphone designer earned the equivalent of $360 million in net profit, or 95 percent more than it did a year ago. It didn't give hard device numbers but had predicted in July that it would ship 6.5 million phones between then and September.
