VideoLAN's cross-platform media player, VLC, has finally been released in promised iPad form at the App Store. The app allows playback of video formats outside of Apple's normal MPEG-4/H.264 combination; developer Applidium notes, in fact, that most publicly available codecs should be supported. Users can for instance load AVI files onto an iPad by way of iTunes' filesharing system.
