LG and Samsung this week have simultaneously hired visual design academics to improve the quality of their user interfaces. LG was first and on Tuesday hired Korea Institute of Advanced Technology dean Lee Kun-pyo to head up its Design Management Center. Samsung immediately followed suit on Wednesday by hiring Kookmin University's professor of Visual Communications Design Jung Ji-hong, who will now oversee smartphone interface design at the company's Mobile Design Group.
