Motorola today kept up its recent history of upbeat results by posting both higher profits and shipping more smartphones. It had its third consecutive quarter above water and earned a net $69 million based on more advanced devices: although its total phone shipments dropped from 12 million in the fall to 8.5 million, the Droid, the Cliq line and new phones like the Devour pushed smartphones up from exactly 2 million to 2.3 million.
